so what if you stick the factory filters back in??? or something like Fram, instead of our K&N or other high performance filters?

kris and i were rackin our brains and we think that its the actual cutout for the resonator that is causin the hum. Like the analogy to the bottle. now if there was a way to make the inside absolutely flush, than that might just do it!

filters wont make a difference. it has to be the rubber pipe. ive tried it with out the filter in the housing and its still there, and as soon as i took the pipe off the throttle body it stoped.

ill play with it tomorrow since teh puck didnt work

i think if i jam the puck up in there some more, it might even out the dip so i'll mess w/ that in the meantime...

I think it's the resonant frequency of the air cleaner-pipe assembly. If we changed the length, size, or shape of it then it should go away (or change). I wonder if I put a piece of pipe on the bottom of my airbox where I removed the bumper resonator, if that would make a difference.

BTW if you don't mind it a little quieter you can always mod the resonator like I did. (but i want it loud again!)

this mod was a damn tease!!! haha, I couldnt handle the hum, I felt like everyone was looking at me at the light - like what the hell is wrong with his car??? It was loud as hell, so I put the random resonator back on. I may just bite the bullet and get a CAI...it was a fun discovery though guys!

well guys, accordin to kris if u put a straightpipe inplace of the stock piping the hum is gone, which leads me to believe that the hum is either created my the lil indentation due to the lil resonator cut out, or something to do w/ the chamber under the air filter. but i will ponder this in my dreams and should come up with a mindblowing solution tomorrow hehehe

whats the point of the plastic thing? i just removed the whole thing altogether..its sitting in my garage. i still get the sound difference...will it hurt your car if you leave the whole thing out? i've heard from numerous people that you're supposed to just take out the whole resonator.

are you sure its the right one?? we have two in our car.. two intake resonators.

one is right behind the front bumper (driver's side). which you just pop the whole thing off.. the second one is underneath the piping that goes from the airbox to the engine.. that one you take the resonator piping off and try to cover the whole with something.. if you dont cover the whole, the air's just flowing back out of the engine and your car wont get air..

i just did this "puck mod" damn, that puck just pops right into place.. the thing is, it cant be pushed further in since there's a lining on the inside. i hear the humming noise too, but i dont think its too bad. i could live with it. especially since the sound of the engine sounds insanely nice when hitting high revvs!!!

yeah.. ive been trying different things all day to get rid of the hum noise.. but after a few trials, the only thing that gets rid of the hum noise is that weird pipe resonator.. and its pissing me off since i really like that sound when the resonator is off and pushing high revs. i guess im just gonna have to live with it til someone figures out what how to make the sound disappear

we may have to eliminate part of the rubber intake hose to get rid of it. like i said. im going to play with it tonight when i get home.

hum wont go away unless you have the little resonator on there. I have tried it all, and still had the hum, so I resorted to putting the resonator back on - I couldnt take the hum

some people really do like it and some dont.. but since its a really easy mod, you can just take it out or put it back in minutes.. so i guess its still a cool mod

Hmm, I know this thread is old. I was searching for how to remove intake resonator and I came upon this, I was going to do the other resonator, but it involved taking off the bumper, kind of hard. So I just went with this little mod. Might sound a bit ghetto, but it worked, I used the Skippy Peanut Butter cap to cover up the hole. Hahah, I hear the humming, and I`m taking it for a ride tomorrow and gonna see how the higher RPM`s sound like. It was an easy mod

taking off the bumper takes no more than 10 min. and a flat head screwdriver - very easy actually and worth it to get rid of that big ass restrictive intake resonator. I would put the small one back on, and take off the big one - sounds very good and you wont have that annoying hum (it may be fun now, but you will get sick of it fast!)

Well just last night I removed the resonator that was behind the bumper. It was kind of hard cause I didn`t have the right tools, especially for the second bolt, it was a bietch taking it out. But I managed and I got it out I just came back from a drive right now, and wow, the TL sounds like a beast beneath all those resonators. I love the sound!

i loved the sound when i got both the resonators out plus the exhaust resonators. the freakin tl sounds so beefy right now. the only problem: humming at idle.
