Ok, i cant take the credit for this mod. Dark Dj did this, and told me about it. so today i had a little free time and thought id do a little DIY. for those of you who have already removed your lower resonator, try removing this. it will make it deaper and louder under WOT. it will cost 1.99 for teh part at Home depot, (im sure any home center will have what you need.. all you need to buy is a 3" snap in PVC outlet cover, found in the plumbing dept.
this is what your looking for

For starters, remove the plastic engine cover (4 10 mm bolts), then remove the air box cover and hose that goes into the intake.you will see the small piece of plastic hanging from the bottom that is what you will be removing (it doesnt look like much but it makes a HUGE sound difference)
![](http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5364/picture092lt.jpg)
that is what you will be removing.
take the piece you bought and mark around the pipe 1/2" to3/4 inch from the flange and cut the pipe. cleand and debur any plastic chunks and dust

![](http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/7531/picture090gk.jpg)
Loosen the 10mm bolt on the hose clamp holding the small air box on to the intake tube and remove. then slide the new pice you bought and cut into the opening and clamp tight.

Reassemble and go play!

hahaha, I was wondering what the hell that was the other day. I never even saw it till I was bored a while ago and I was cleaning my engine. So you think it makes even more of a difference? Loud as a CAI now? I may just go do that now...its beautiful weather here now...67 degrees and sunny, light breeze...damn, I feel sorry for you up north!
Im sure that helps airflow some also...hmmmm, something else we can debate about now

i wonder since this mod seems to be easier than the bottom resonator, if u just do this one will the car still sound a lil louder without being too over the top? i only want to remove one of the 2, whichevers easier and doesnt get too loud.

OK my report back....first of all it sounds even better now at WOT (above 5000 RPM) - wow, just like a CAI I assume.
BUT!!! - I may need to try a different fitting, because I now have a very annoying hum and it is coming from were this piece is now. Maybe this is to flexible and hums with the engine.
this is what i used http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...entPage=family
This piece was 3", but it was big enough to fit over the hole in the stock intake, I may try a 2.75 " to fit inside it.
If I can get rid of that hum...this will be a sweet mod!

Im sick of messing with it tonight though, so fsttyms1, do some magic and get rid of this hum so I can feel like I did something worthwhile

a thought...maybe because the stock intake is plastic, it "absorbs" some engine noise/vibrations and that little piece was to eliminate that, that could be why a CAI doesnt have that problem because it is metal

wassup guys! im glad everyone is tryin this mod out i didnt have time to get a cap, but what i did is i took the resonator out, and ducttaped the top of it and stuck that sucker back in there and it seems to be workin for now. i'll get some hardware when i get a chance and really solidify up the plug. darkshear made a unique plug as well, gotta wait for him to post up in this thread

Doesn't doing this will hurt low end power?? that's the one go between air filter and TB right? Just like when i have CAI and SRI i notice lost of power down low. right now i have stock airbox without the big resonator remove with K&N in it.

no this wont really do anything for power, there just isnt much of a way it could. If you notice a change (its probably in your mind). I had your same setup before, the extra sound is great! cant tell a differene at all untill you get up way high in the RPM's and its just another level of sound

woooo!!
so i hopped over to the garage just now and checked out this new mini resonator and sure enough... it's not noticable unless you really look DOWN on the intake pipe-thing. i snapped two shots so people who are too lazy or are dubious can check out where it exactly resides in your car ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

good job subtledreamer, did u block it yet? im thinkin about gettin a rubber diaphram type thing and using that to seal off the hole. hopefully that will get rid of the hum a few of the guys are having, my ductape method seems to be workin well though but i dont feel comfy w/having ducttape there for a long time though.

i think to really seal the new cap we will need something that is more flexible around the corners, and duct tape isn't exactly the best when it comes to flexibility... i doubt that i'll have time the next few days but when i work on it, i'll definately keep you guys updated on how it goes

or it could be because a CAI is metal and it doesnt absorb the engine hum like the stock plastic intake...damn I think I may have something

o ok thnx.. so i have no problem removing it then? as if it wouldnt affect my car in ne way except for increasing the sound of my intake *ROAR* lol... how do i go upon removing it? lol
