2nd gen TL tranny fix
I just talked to an Acura sales man that I have known for 12 years. Only sales guy I trust. I have purchased 5 Acuras from him.
He said that most of the 2nd Gen TL that have come into his dealership, have been fixed and shouldn't have a tranny problem.
I like the look of the 2nd Gens and am thinking of buying on soon.
What do you guys think.

Well.... my '03 Type S had the transmission fix done and the tranny went in it at 45000 miles. I do love my 2nd gen (better than my wife's 3rd) and the replacement transmission has worked flawlessly for the last 15000 miles. There was a redesign incorporated in the ones built from '05 on so they are more reliable than the original and they are under warranty past 100,000. Not telling you what to buy, but if it is low mileage and you get a good deal - go for it!
There's always room for another 2nd gen!

Porkchop Sandwiches!
Acura is STILL having problems with the 5 speed. Even the "redesigned" ones. But with a 109k warranty its not too bad, I mean what other car lets you get free trannies till its old enough to get rid of anyway?

make sure if its not automatically covered VIN (some late 03s not) that you get a special paid warranty to an extreme time miles limit on trans 10year 150k miles at least
There are many gen2 on the road on the 2nd 3rd 4th warranty replacement unit, while others have the original at 150k miles!
luck of the draw
Saying they have all been replaced that need to, is optomistic at best
Your buddy works in SALES not parts and service- where they still see 1-4 gen2s for a free trans a week, and about that many gen3s per month are coming in more and more as they miles grow on them.

It is repeated, but I think it is okay. I know newbee needs to use the search, but everyone thinks and concerns differently on the same one problem, but I am sure the forum is opened to all opinions, ideas, thoughts, etc. with some extends.

Based on my reading and messages to other members, I have decided to drink seafoam and then immedialty fart in the gas tank 8 times per oz of seafoam-
is that the correct procedure to increase my mileage?
When you have an ~in time and miles~ warranty problemn such as the trans failure- you do not pay diagnosis fee or labor on the job at all. Acura even pays for the new transmision fluid for the replacement unit, AND `when able`- hook you up in a loaner car for the duration.
BY LAW they must write a normal work order (proves they have permission to be taking your car apart- they are not stealing your car and parting it out)
so they will tell you 100$ diagnosis fee- then when the prob is determined to be covered by warranty - they write a special new Warranty work order and you
DO NOT pay the 100 diagnosis fee
DONT let them wash it---- if you like your car IMO
If you are past the stated warranty time or miles- whichever comes first, and acura ~goodwill~ replaces, say-- the transmission for you, and ask you to pay the labor of 500 dollars. Considering they are comping you a $3500 transmission after warranty period has expired, and giving it the part a warranty of its own-
thats reasonable, IMO, for the customer to pay the labor.
To be clear: If you have a covered warranty problem- its free
If you have a RECALL like the oil jet kit - thats totally FREE
If you have an extended warranty on the SRS (gen2 TL)- if that goes out- Its Free as well

the official amount is 7 years PLUS 9 months, from the first date of service- the day the car left the new car lot as sold.
You can get that date from acura by calling 1-800-382-2238 x5 and give them the VIN number
the miles limit is 109,000 miles and since we also have 5% high reading odometers- you can get covered till 114.5 if needed
Its whichever comes first
Did you speak with a service writer or THE SERVICE MANAGER
thats who has authority and can call acura regional warranty rep to get an ok for cars just over the limit- and sometimes way over the limit.
They can also makes deals of you pay labor of 500- they pay trans cost of 3500- thats if you are past limits and are a nice person that is polite to the service manager
Look at the production date month/year on the door sticker for a clue as to when the car may have been sold ( a few months after made date)-
the 800 number open m-f 6am to 5 pm pacific time
Your dealer service dept can look up the exact date in th computer as well
So-- did you take the car in for inspection, or just call and say- my 00 has a trans problem?

7 years PLUS 9 months from date car was first sold, OR 109k miles (see above post on odometer error) whichever comes first
the extra 9 months was a semi recent addition to the 7/109, which itself started as 7/100
The COURT says- is what you need to know- that and the DATE of first sold/use
Did I miss something in your post where you said the date of first use- or looked at the production month-year on the door sticker??
Unless the person showed you on the computer what that date was- bypass the assistant and speak with the SERVICE MANAGER ONLY that person has the authority- not the assistant!!!! You can get warranty past limits at the decision of acuras regional rep and the REAL manager going to bat for you
It happens all the time- someone expecting a hassle for being over miles or time and instead- here comes the loaner car no hassles

These trannies ARE NOT fixed... Dont listen to anyone...
I got my tranny replaced for the 2nd time in june 2005 w/new redesigned tranny, and i changed the fluid every 20K and my tranny STILL WENT when the tranny had 68K. The dlr is giving me 10% so it will cost $4100..
I am getting it rebuild by world transmissions II un clifton NJ for 3K..
They are installing a tranny cooler and using AMSOIL syntetic fluid and it sound like he knew what he was talking about..
3000 and he is giving a 3/36 warrenty the other places are anywhere from 2400-3500 and only give 12/12 or 12/unlimited miles so for $500 more i will take a extra 2 year warrenty!
