2k2 TL-S w/ 111k
Theres a dealership approximately 5 miles from me where I recently test drove a TL-S. It's a lot quicker than my auto Tiburon with i/h/e. Even at partial throttle the TL-S would spin tires.
The TL-S goes for $12,500.. I'm gonna get a mechanic to check it out for me in a couple days. Do you think this is a good deal or is it perhaps a shady price for a TL-S seeing most are priced around 14k-15k.
I heard these motors last over 200k. My friend Dave had a 98 AV6 that lasted close to 200k. I am going to try and get partial coverage for it as well.
Any opinions about this?
PS. This is my first post! ;D

That seems kinda pricey man. Of course it's also a dealership and they WILL rip you off. I got my 02 3.2TL type S with 77k miles on it from a individual seller for $13,500. The dealerships all around my area (kansas city) are trying to sell the same year that i got with around the same mileage anywhere from 16k to 18k $$ which is rediculous. It could be a descent buy, but personally i wouldn't buy one with that many miles already on it unless they could prove those are mostly highway miles, which is pretty much impossible to prove. good luck!

You should check if it's still on its original tranny, because TLs are known to have higher than normal tranny failure issues. 111k miles on an original tranny is a lot, I don't know how much longer it will last. Of course, there are people out there with 100k miles or more on their first tranny and its working fine, but just check it out.

I'd love to recommend this car to you, the TL-S is quite the machine. however, after 100k miles, there is no more warranty on the faulty tranny. So unless you factor in a 3 grand tranny replacement (probably) at some point, I would suggest you do not buy this particular car

Can't you buy an extended warranty?

I would have to recommend against a TL-S with over 100k miles, I'm afraid. 'Tis a sad reality, since they are great cars.. but the transmission just cannot be trusted. Having to pay for a transmission repair on that $12.5k TL-S would make it a $15.5-$16k TL-S, and you could get one for that price that still has the warranty.
