hey guys i was jus interested in maybe buying a 3g tl but i was jus wondering what differences there are in a 2g tl type s vs the 3g base tl other then looks im wondering if theres a whp difference or any other mechanical difference such as maybe more airbags or like better stereo etc.

 

One big difference is that you can get a manual transmission with a 3rd gen TL.

Temple of VTEC tested the 2004 TL 5AT and got 212whp stock. That's more than the 2G TL-S 5AT which usually puts down around 200whp stock. If you want to see the dyno, let me know.

 

nah its ok but damn how come it puts more to the wheels if the hp is 260 hp for both cars

 

I've been driving the hell out of my 00 TL, an 03 TL-S and a 05 3g TL.
The differences are day and night between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen, the 3rd gen rides more like a BMW, the suspension is firm and will take any turn you give it with confidence, unlike the 2G where its feels like the car is going to flip over.

The engine also feels alot more refined and has a better throttle responce, the tranny shifts like butter I cant even feel it The car roars when you push it. The type-s comes close but I woulndt compare the two the 3rd just feels over all better made. I just cant wait to give my my 2nd gen POS for an 05 TL.

Ohh yeah and the 3rd gen stereo SUCKS imo, compared to the 2nd gen. The 2nd gen has alot more bass and a more "Full" and deep sound.

3G has bi-xenon so u can naked attack ppl with no tint

If all you care about is bass, you're correct. The 3rd gen is much more focused upon mids and highs.

The 2nd gen TL stereo sucks in comparison to the 1st gen though.

 

what about the defective tranny the 2g got stuck with did they fix that for the 3g tl

They are LED's same with the '06/'07 Accord

i mean, I love the 3G as much as my 2G but surely there is something else much more important than LED tailights...I mean, you could mod the 2G rather easily to convert it to LED tails

 

LED's are not tough to do. I modded the LEDs in my RL's dash, took me under an hour.

 

exactly, I got the bulbs and controller and everything and new taillight covers, it took about 2 hours to do the taillights

 

go for it..you will not be dissapointed

 

ur 2g type S can beat a 3g base tl.... at least the 04-05. dont know about the 06 and above. the 3g type S is ur best bet

3rd gen TL weighs more too

 

The 3G also weighs a little bit more. And from my experience, when shifting, the car seems to cut the throttle a split sec in the 3G, and I haven't noticed that in my 2G TL-S. In the end, the two are very close in terms of straight line performance, by the 3G handles better. However, if you put stiffer/larger aftermarket sway bars on the 2G TL-S, its handling will improve quite a lot.

I can understand and appreciate the changes for the 3G, but there isnt much that compares to the lines of the 2G Type-S. Still looks awesome everyday i see it!!! I love my 02 TL-S....

 

the tl-s is excellent, but I really love my '00 tl-p lol

it's a vtec! hahahahaha some simple mods and it should be spitting fire...

but more importantly, the 5AT is silky smooth (after rebuild) I just wish it came in a manual transmission...I know people have changed it, but just imagine the TL with a stickk (creammss)

 

All 3G TL's 04 and up Have LED Taillights and the 3rd brake lamp is also LED and also LED side markers. As for the Audio system, If you listen to hip hop like me you'll notice the lack of bass that ur 2g tl would pick up and thump to real nice.
Thats my only complaint about the 3G, but no hatting I have a 2G and love the looks of it, I like it better than the 3G but the features are just way better on 3G hands down.

for the bass id just put 2 12's in my trunk and blow my car apart

 

the only problem is not hearing what the people are saying in the song from too much bass... thats whats happening right now in my car

yeah well the 3G Rattles like a bitch when subs are in it. My boi put in 2 x10" MTX thunders at about 600W, On his 3G the whole car rattles like a civic, the rear decklid rattled so much [I] didnt even know where to start dynamating The rattles from from the interior which was very loud coming from the rear decklid and the exterior trunk.

I put the same subs on my 2G turned the gain up was running at least 800W only the trunk lid rattled 10$ worth of dynamat covered the trunk lip and that was it 0 rattles! and the Interior never rattled on my 2g with subs, only the trunk lip, on 3G the rattles EVERYWHERE! The 2g is really a nice car to put subs in though it sounds real good.

 

i guess cus the license plate is on the trunk that plate would make alotta noise lol

 

in my 2g every thing rattles im pushing 2000 watts at 1 ohm
