292 Miles on a Full Tank ?

Tell me what you think. My TLS gives 292 miles on a full tank. I'm doing city driving and a very small amount of highway.

325 is what i am getting, out of that 60% is highway and 40% city. The best that i have gotten so far is 410 on a tank of gas but that was on a round trip (all highway) to NYC.

My gas mileage varies quite a bit between hwy and city. I've gotten 32+mpg hwy (verified), but as low as 19 city. I've got a 6mt btw. This car has the greatest difference between city and hwy of any car I've owned.

That's not surprising since the TL gets lousy fuel economy in stop and go city driving. Put it on the highway and you could see 450+ miles on a full tank.

And you can get a better handle on your fuel economy by calculating the actual MPG from fill-up to fill-up.

That's exactly my experience also.

...and how many gallons was this?

People need to start calculating their MPG, not how much they get per gallon because the amount of gas added after a fill-up varies for everyone. I can't say how good this is, because you could have gotten 292 miles after filling up half a tank, 3/4 of a tank, on E, etc.

The Gas tank has a 17 gallon capacity. I clocked the car at 0 miles at the fill up. When the gas light came on then I read 292 miles on the trip meter.

I already know what the capacity is. How many gallons did it take for you to fill up then, after the trip? What I mean by this is you could be getting 400 miles out of a 15 gallon fillup, but if you got 400 miles out of a 12 gallon fillup its a huge difference.

Don't mean to be a prick but the way everyone in this thread recorded it is an inaccurate way of measuring your fuel economy.

You still have 2 gallons or more left in the tank when the gas light comes on.

I reset my "Trip A" odometer every time I fill up and write the number of gallons to fill the tank on the receipt. That makes it very easy to track MPG.

I have 254 miles currently on my tank and its been on for a day. I did a recent tuneup so I know that should help. I do 95% city and 5% highway. I look forward to the days that I can get near 320 miles per tank. FWIW, I drive pretty easy on my TL.

The TLs are definitely highway cruisers. I found that out quick. Makes me wish I had kept my Accord for city commuting which is 95% of my driving.

With abour 90% city i get around 220 miles with around a 14.5gal fillup. When i do about 60/40 City/Highway i will get around 280. The best i have ever gotten was around 360 all highway.

pearl, that's about what I get too.. around 290 to 300 when the light first comes on, on a full tank of gas. And yes, the TLS does seem like a highway type of car. It gets amazing numbers when it's mainly highway.

I couldn't agree anymore with the consensus that the TL's are highway cruisers. The MPG's of our car can easily attain 30-32 on the highway, however in town it's a whole different story. We easily see our mpg's drop to 18-19 in the city. Our driving style is not aggressive and we always play that damn game of who can get the better mileage. Our road travel is a mix of about 70% highway 30% city and get an overall avg. of about 23-24 miles per gallon, not too shabby just need to stay away from the stop and go's of the town, which is not possible.

I always reset my Trip A when I fill up, usually get about 23MPG with mixed driving, I haven't checked pure highway mileage in a while but last time it was 29MPG and I never have pure city or stop-and-go driving. I haven't checked the MPG since I seafoamed and replaced the plugs, but I always calculate my MPG before I even pull away from the gas station.

These cars get much better highway mileage because they are heavy. Once cruising then sip gas. Stop and go takes a toll on the mileage. With 50/50 driving I get 25mpg and strictly highway 32+. I have never used an entire take for stop and go city driving.

afterall, when crusing at 60mph, the engine is only running at like 1700-1800rpm, but in city driving, revving to 3000rpm in 1st and 2nd gear is normal.

Is there any new road construction causing you delays? I normally can get 325 ~ 350 miles per tank (60% highway/40% city). But we have major construction going on my route and I only got 279 on my last tank. My drive time has increased about 30 minutes, most of time is sitting in traffic, burning gas.

Like nine's comment, I have gotten 400+ miles on a tank when just crusing on the highway.

My fuel economy is going south as my car ages ... before, I would easily obtain 23 mpg of mixed city/highway driving. I haven't really changed my driving habits and now I'm barely squeaking over 20mpg of the same mix (about 70% city / 30% highway driving).

I was waiting to Seafoam the car until I reached 100,000 miles (160 000km) but that might change... I'm at 130 000km (then again ... I might be selling my car in the new year, so I might just leave that to the next owner ...)

My mileage has dropped drastically, I would consitently get between 320-330. The last two fillups were 280 and 290. What could be going on?

I can't get anything above 260 with a mixture of majority highway and less than 30 minutes spent in town. Only "mod" is the resonator taken off the stock airbox for my 02 TLS.

I'm going to pick up some seafoam and new plugs soon, as an oil change is in order in the next 500 miles. Also, the 105k maintenance check is in 6k (roughly July next year) so I'm sure when I go through those motions it'll help out a bit on the mpg side.

The last car I owned had some bolt-on work done to it, and I know that helped squeeze a few ticks of mpg out of it, and I am getting a CAI shortly, so that should help out a bit as well.

Get a Camry with a 4 cylinder; I had a 99 with auto and that thing got me 457 miles out of a tank. I drove to Las Vegas (not for pleasure but a funeral) early last summer (2006) doing about 80-85 mph with 5 people and trunk full of luggage and the A/C running the whole way with several steep upgrades. I got to Vegas in one tank. (The gas light was on the last 10 miles) Came out to 30 mpg, which I thought was pretty impressive considering the previously mentioned conditions.

Well, the only thing that I did was to change the oil to royal purple, and take the resonator of the air intake.

Yeah Camry gas milage is amazing...but to the original post, Im getting about 275-280 on full tank as well. Though last trip from VA to NJ(331 miles) I made it almost on a full tank, had to pull right before exit to the familys house lol.

I just got the worst MPG yet...and I just seafoamed before that fill up. I averaged 15MPG...with a little highway in there. Typically I get about 17-18MPG straight city driving. When I make my trips back and forth from Boston and Tallahassee its incredible...I average about 32-33MPG

I haven't check my city mileage yet but I'm getting 30 mpg on the highway. I think that pretty impressive actually. I have a 1997 Olds cutlass 4AT 160HP 6cyl
that gets me 33 mpg.

I haven't taken any recent shots but I'll show you what I've got.

These are pretty much from when I first got the car. Since then I've added the OEM body kit and 02-03 tails. I'll try to take some current pics this weekend.

I DID make that trip on a full tank. from VA Beach to Hackensack. I also made it from here to Columbia SC on a full tank. Now, the mileage is sucking.
