Post 240hp V-6 Altima coming in 2002!

Whoo wee, competition in the import V-6 market is heating up! 225hp TL is getting milder by the day.

Did you guys know that Hondas are one of the lowest class vehicles in Japan? The number one manufacturer is Toyota and then Nissan. Not to dis on Honda, but the perception is different in the United States. Just a note I would like to share. Don't get me wrong, I still love my car and wouldn't trade it for anything else....Maybe for a M5.

hey now, dont be mocking the nissan...i used to drive the altima and for a 150hp 4 banger, this car could move. albeit, not off the line but when you got that sucker on the open highway, the thing could move pretty fast.

It's "Renault Altima" now... since they bought off 51% of Nissan stocks. hum... think again...

True but you have to take into consideration what lineups are offered in each Japan compared to the US. The Nissan lineup in Japan squashes the what are offered here in the States. In other words we get only a select few of Nissans cars where they leave the best models as JDM models only (unfortunately)

So when you compare brands you have to take into consideration what models you are offered.

but I do understand your point and that perception is very true in Japan, but comparing what is offered here, IMO Honda wins out.

240hp, 5speed, lighter smaller. I would take it... If the price is cheaper, too.

Look at the WRX, in Canada, it cost a bit more then the TL, with no options. I wouldn't buy that ugly car for the Engine and AWD powertain. Ain't worth it IMHO.

This move by Nissan should ultimately benefit new Acura buyers. It will put pressure on Acura to keep up. Acura have been getting away with alot of sh*t lately. The 2001 TL was IMHO a joke. I waited for the 2001 hoping for 6-disc and memory seats upgrade but no major improvements were made for 2001. I ended up getting a heavily discounted 2000. On top of that they come out with a remodel a few months later.

You guys know Acura actually sold 3 model years of the TL (2000, 2001, 2002) within a period of 5 months!!! Is that a record for a car company or what?

I would consider Nissan before Toyota but I didn't like the Maxima or the Altima Style when I was looking for a new car.

However, I can see people now choosing the Altima over our TL. 3.5 liter V-6 in that little car ain't bad.

Here are some pics from the NY show.

240HP 3.5LV6 same size a Maxima and same price if not cheaper than the current Accord V6. Now that's bang for the buck!

3.5L 240 hp? Talk about inefficiency, sheesh Honda can do that in a 2 liter!

Altima=68.6 hp/liter
Gen2 TL= 70.3
S2k....= 120 (who can touch that in a nat. aspirated engine!)

I'd rather keep the prestige, luxury, resale, and look of my TL and if i feel bad get the headers and smoke the Altima.

Besides, which sounds betta to a girl? "Yeah baby, I got a TL. Wow, thats a nice car" or "Yeah baby, I got an Altima! really? my Grandma got one last week!"

Well, no offense but here is what I think.

1. I am driving the car, not looking at the car from outside most of the time. So good styling is a plus, however, I must like the car when I drive it!

2. I do need no cars to impress any girls, or anybody I should say. Although my friend disagree with me on that and say that I rather have a Porsche Boxster or MB SLK. Even thought the S2K is as fast or faster, they rather have the image. And it's ture that a Porsche is a Porsche, and S2K is just another Honda...

3. I think it's very likely that her grandpop might drive a TL. Since most of the TL owner are tend to be those old folks.

Yeah, and.. the TL doesn't provide this experience? For the price, I'm extremely satisfied with the interior and the driving of this car.

Personally, I agree, however it is important for some people, and that is understandable. But for you to say prestige isn't a big factor for many people would be unpractical. If that was the case, Great car companies like Mercedes wouldn't be able to surivive at what they are currently charging. While personally I prefer Mercedes to Lexus (my famiy has owned both btw), the cost difference between Lexus and Mercedes for what you get isn't justified. A new S500 will cost about 85k out the door. LS430 around 65k. You will get more features with the super luxury LS430, heated, cooled seats, M Levinson stereo, and massaging seats, the same frontal distance sensor that S class has, navi, whatever.

Although my friend disagree with me on that and say that I rather have a Porsche Boxster or MB SLK. Even thought the S2K is as fast or faster, they rather have the image. And it's ture that a Porsche is a Porsche, and S2K is just another Honda...

A lot of people would actually opt for the s2k. With the Supercharger kit it will be cheaper and hella faster than the Boxster. The Boxster is a fine car, but it isn't a good example of what prestige should be. The boxster, Non S especially, is considered low end. If you talk about people concerned with prestige and image, then they will still be looked down upon for getting the lowest model Porsche. Who gives props to people with Baby benzes? I certainly don't.

3. I think it's very likely that her grandpop might drive a TL. Since most of the TL owner are tend to be those old folks.

I don't know about that. A lot of young people own the TL, i've seen a few HS kids on here even. At the HOuston meet the average age was around 21.

Pimpin_TL,

I do agree with your points. Perhaps the Boxster VS S2K isn't a good example, but that was the friendly manner argument I had
with my friends. I said I would go for the S2K, and they rather have a key with Porsche logo on it. It's just a matter of perspective, not really right or wrong kinda thing.

And I certianly agree with the fact that prestige and brand name is damn important to MANY people....... Personally I don't really car much, but it's just there and I sure understand...

The TL is sure a good value. I like how my TL drives and the style of course. But I can't live with the shitty quality and the lousy dealers in my area...... But I guess that's why the TL is selling at such price. And I sure hope that my case is just few of those rare ones...

BTW I got my TL while I was 18 and still in HS as well.

I wasn't really saying that it's a old man's car nor was I trying to be offensive in anywayz. Just want to share my opinions...

Yeah... you do that...

S1200, its all good, i just think it is hard to beat our car for the value anyway you look at it. I do believe that a couple small mods could improve our cars, (i.e. upgraded tires, sway bars, lowering springs, better brakes) cuz i think those are pretty weak. Our acceleration is acceptable however. anyways wer'e all Damn smart ppl since we're TL owners anyway, true? hehe.

I know a guy who has driven this car in Cali. He said the performance is better than the Maxima in all areas. He told me the write up should be in MT next month or possibly July. The interesting thing was that Stillen was there testing a supercharged Altima with the new V6 that they claimed put out 325 HP!!! If this makes it to production, it will be fast as crap (with a ass load of torque steer). He sent me a part of the future article. If anyone wants to see it, let me know and i will post it.

Cool

With all due respect, the older gen. of TL does have some older drivers, but the newer ones (99 & after) are very young indeed (say from 25~35). Now RL is a different story ..

Come on guys, horse power is not everything, right ? I don't think I would trade in my TL (even it were bone stock) for a Altima any time soon : I just don't see it in my lifetime that Altima will bypass TL in performance & luxury ... JMHO ...

Altima is going to be an awesome car. I shuda waited. Look at these impressive new features in the 2002 Altima:

"multi-function trip computer, which includes an odometer, twin trip meters and a display for outside air temperature, driving time, average speed, fuel consumption and distance to empty.

For the driver, there's a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, height-adjustable centre console armrest " -source: http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/010418-1.htm
