Post 215 vs 255

you guys know how bmw uses really big tires and rims. well, do you think all that rubber (like 2 more inches) makes that much more difference? seriously?

I went to santa monica's new BMW dealership today and they had a z8 for sale. only 1/4 million. this rich couple came in to get it, but got pissed when they couldn't touch it.

premium for the z8 are marked pretty high, but mostly around the 160-165k range. i really dont like those things though, when my dad took his m5 in for service, we saw one on the floor. i must say, those things did not look good in black.

larger area of contact with asphalt on fatter tires incease frictional force which translates into more grip and better handling. the down side is heavier tires takes more horses to pull it especially from standing still.
some people reported rubbing with 225 tires. stay away from those unless you are into spirited driving.

I would suggest getting 215's over 225's, mainly because of the front suspension member clearance, plus the fact that going wider is bad for steering.

BAD NEWS: There are a lot more 225's on the market than 215's.

Wider tires make the car slower off the line because of more traction and more rotational mass. Although you can carry more speed into the corners with wider tires, once you open up the throttle, the car is slower to pick up speed. So there is always a trade off.

yelp. like rims, the bigger you get, the slower your car will be. that's why when you're considering putting on 18's or 19's, you better consider some performance mods, too.

wider tire does makes a big difference. But a wider tire in the front wheel will also affect the steering response.

Anyhow, they do handles better, but the wider tires are just one the think that makes them a better handling car.

$250000 for the Z8? I think they are out of their mind... Either those people who pay $250K doesn't know anything about what's avaliable on the market or have a really special taste and just LOVE the Z8 or BMW name.

Come on, be real. you can pickup a Ferrai 360 spider with Change. A Lambo with a little bit more. But the M3 is a pretty good deal at MSRP.

I think the Z8 is ugly and small too. I saw one for $180,000.
