I have been able to replace 5 out of 6 spark plugs on my 2003 Acura 3.2TL. The last one is the most frustrating one. My 5/8 socket wrench doesn't fit. This last spark plug is on the back side of the engine (middle one) so I can't look, can only take pictures. I got a high-quality video. Can anyone advise me on what socket I should use for this spark plug:

They're supposed to all be the same size...

it doesnt look gunked up with rust, your socket should be able to grab it

 

When I put the socket in, it feels like I just hit a piece of rubber, not the hex nut on the spark plug like the way the other 5 plugs feel.

Could it be that some technician used a completely wrong spark plug in the last replacement for this 6th spark plug?

 

Have you looked at your socket and see if the little rubber piece that's towards the top is oriented properly? It may have gotten dislodged and not facing the proper orientation and now won't allow the spark plug to go all the way down.

 

Im willing to bet my last dollar this is what happened.

 

You should save all the dollars you have for maintaining your car

 

I did check the socket afterwards but I didn't see anything unusual.

I'm almost positive that this is not the cause, because I have another socket (regular Stanley 5/8" socket with no magnet or rubber) which I also tried but had the same rubber feeling when trying to remove the spark plug as when I used this special socket made for removing spark plugs.

Nonetheless I will check the socket which has the rubber again today to be absolutely sure. Couldn't believe replacing the spark plugs would be this hard.

 

Did the rubber piece potentially fall out INTO the spark plug tube then?

 

actually that looks exactly like what happened.. I think i see a rubber seal washer in the tube

Somehow the spark plug boot still fit without a problem.

So after only 9 months, I found the issue. That piece of rubber that I hit with my wrench while trying to remove the spark plug is the tip of the IGNITION COIL. The dang thing is still stuck to the spark plug so I cannot remove it. I tried using a dentist hook tool but it was too short. Still trying...
