2003 TL-S Intake Resonator Removed

Finally got around to doing this mod and just wanted to post up a video for sound comparison. It sounds way nicer and I can actually hear when VTEC kicks in. Awesome, priceless mod. The only mod I've done so far!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkWqBaO4Pns

Yeah, I know the video is full of background noise, ie. the dog barking, crickets, other cars, but you get the idea!

Sooweet . Curious on how you removed your's. Bumper drop or wheel well extraction? Also do you notice a louder sound in all the ranges or just at vtec?

First, I turned my wheel all the way to the left and then I took off the bumper. I notice the louder sound when you step on the gas (around 4-5k RPM). Also, I notice the humming sound a CAI or SRI would make when the car is idle. Like someone mentioned, with the stock intake resonator removed, it will sound louder than a stock g35 at idle/takeoff.

Congrats.

I removed mine and I love it.

I'm in the market for an intake now.

I am too (: . I just wanted to do this for the meantime and see how much of a difference it is with it off. Some people say they notice no sound difference, but knowing my car really well, I notice a big difference vs. the stock resonator being on. Louder at idle (humming sound), on take off, it sounds louder than G35, and during hard acceleration, it's way louder and you can hear the VTEC kick in around 5k RPM.

I heard some people mentioning that with the stock resonator removed, dirt or particles can easily get trapped in the filter faster and easier. Is this true? I heard some ways to prevent this is to put a mesh around the holes of where the intake resonator used to be and you're good to go.

Lol nice nice, I use to think there was something wrong with my car when I got it, because it would idle really loud. So I took a look for this box once I found out about and what do you know, only some chips of the tubing was left of it, after the accident the previous owner failed to replace it. That's fine with me though, I like the sound

This is indeed my favorite free mod. I love the roar of VTEC especially in tunnels..LOL No need for an intake..this does the job. Add K&N drop-in and spend your money elsewhere..

Is there any power gains from a K&N drop in filter?

Is it worth it over getting a CAI, like is the gains noticeable or not so much?

i had the resonator/k&n mod, then got a CAI. i wouldnt go back to the resonator mod. the response/sound of the intake is waayyy too addicting.

the hum from the resonator kinda got old after awhile too

I'd rather spend 1/4 of the cost for a CAI for a K&N, get a few more HP and call it a day then get a CAI now. I used to want one but I like the sound I get now. I don't mind the hum of no resonator because it's really only noticeable outside the car in idle. Other than that, the sound you hear is a roar..LOL Plus some CAIs will also give you a hum.

From what I hear, that is true. Some CAI's are quiet but they do make a little humming noise as you would expect. My friend has a V2 for his v6 Accord and trust me.. that is the loudest hum you will ever encounter LOL.

Easy, take your bumper off and just remove it, it's on the drive side corner right behind the bumper. Here is a DYI with pics and everything.

I only thought we had 1? I think you might be thinking of EXHAUST resonator.

nope, there is one you have to remove the bumper for, and then there is a upipe, after the air filter before the TB, it's got a clamp you loosen, then you can take a marshmellow puffed lid and RTV it on there

Oh thanks man, sorry for calling u out on that one, I don't know much so this one is news to me. Knowing my car is salvage and thatthe big box intake res. was already missing I'm sure this is also gone. I'll take a look. Thanks again.

look at the very right of the picture of the intake it's behind the battery, it's pretty hidden, but it's a u-pipe. just because it's a salvage car doesn't mean it was removed already, the big intake res was probably removed because it was damaged and pretty much useless to replace. just keep in mind, if you removed the u-pipe resonator, you'll hear a constant hum during idle, but it doesn't bother me, as far as gains and whatnot, i couldn't feel much, but i really didn't expect much either. only reason i'm not getting cai right now is because i'm going to do the 6spd/type s swap like fsttyms1 did and intakes for the tl-s and tl-p are not compatible. why waste 200??

It should pass everything, mine did and I don't have one. It just makes the sound of air going into the engine quieter.
