D.I.Y. Removing the intake resonator
Ok befor i start im 16 so this is not HARD at all
First you want to remove the front bumper its only 4 bolts and a couple clips i circled them in red
Then under the hood remove the black plastic thing above the radiator then there is 2 more clips and thats it the front bumper comes off with just one or two firm pulls i found out it is alot eaiser to start on one side and work my way around
now put the bumper off to the side this is the resonator
and here are the only bolts holding it on
now when you remove the bolts just pull and dont be afraid of breaking anything. then there you go one removed resonator
Now just reverse the steps to put the bumper back on

Check your year- my 01 had a small plastic connector piece that needd to come out along with the resonator box
It was easily added to the pile with a good yank of the channel lock pliers

Its funny how you managed to take every pic from the same exact spot, almost as if you had it on a tripod or somethin....... oh yeah and nice quick write up

Wise choice, cameras arent as fast as cars, and you cant really mod camera.... except for lenses, but why waste your money when you can spend that money on free mods like removing your resonator

they dont check the air box in inspection in de and it actually is basicly a comptech airbox if you think about same thing if you get the filter so if they ask in inspection tell them its aftermarket

instead of waiting for the computer to adjust, cant you just reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 15 min or so and then reconnecting and driving the car right after??
#25
gen2 cars can reset the ECU by pulling the clock backup fuse, or the remove the neg battery cable trick
Its time to clean the terminals anyway so its worth the battery method
If you cant enter a 5 digit code, you're too weak to drive!

i had my car for a week when i knew i wanted to take out the intake resonator but i didn't want to remove the bumper so i took the finder will and unscrewed the few bolts that connect it to the front driver side corner of the bumper and bent it back to the wheel this gave me enough room to get my hand up to the two 12mm bolts with a 1/4 in drive. then i just gave it a few pulls and walla it came out. then i just put the part of the fender well back up and it was over.

Well, I tried this today but the bumper clips have become so brittle that I couldn't extract one without breaking it.
So half way through I decided to pull off as I didn't want to drive around with a bumper held by only 4 bolts.
I'll get some new clips first and then try again.

Couldn't leave it as it was, so I gave it another try.
Took me 2 hours but finally managed to remove the lower resonator.
I ended up with 2 short clips that I forgot where they were from, lol.
I'll rectify that tomorrow. Garage was too dark.

I didnt remove my bumper to take it off, all I did was remove the splash guard under the drivers side and reached up and removed it. Took about 10 mins w/o removing the bumper.

Awesome
Removing the air resonator, works wonder. If you haven't done it yet, run out and do it, because you are gonna love it for sure. It gives my TL a nice growl about the same as cold air intake, and I can feel it pull harder, not to mention the sheer joy that it puts on my face again and again. So, it doesn't hurt. You can always put it back if you don't like it.
I got a sound clip coming up of the difference

i don't think so.
i did the same to my tl-s not bad at all, no need to remove the bumper.
but does it really help with performance?
would CAI do the same or more?
should i save the money instead?

^ The TL-S has a smaller resonator than the TL-P. Its far easier and faster on the P to remove the bumper. Cut the bottom off the air box to allow more air to get to the filter and get a good K&N filter

i JUST finished doing it on my 99 tl p!!!
car sounds great!
btw, the trouble u would have to remove it
without removing the bumper is just ridiculous.
i would say, if u gonna do it, do it right. take the bumper off
