2003 tl-s HID problems

So I have a 2003 tl-s and one of my bulbs turn blue and became very dim, so I looked up the correct bulb and ordered a pair for my car (D2r bulbs). When I went to install them the passenger side bulb and the drivers side bulb are totally different. The d2r bulb fits in the drivers side, but the passenger side is a bulb with two wires that come out of it and connect to two more wires coming out of the ballast..I think the original set up might have been damaged so the previous owner went aftermarket..so my question is what do I need to buy/do to fix this? I've been searching around but I haven't found any answers.. I would like to have both sides take the stock D2r bulbs rather than aftermarket.

Welcome Whatshisface !!!
The OEM original HID set-up on our 2nd Gen TL's is getting rather old, both in age and technology. Chances are that the previous owner had moisture problems and did a quickie fix.

So, if ya would like to properly repair the HID headlamps.....to ensure problem free performance, my suggestion would be to convert both sides to one of the newer aftermarket kits, which are less expensive and water resistant.

There are many previous posted threads on the "HID" problems and the fixes available. Try searching the subject or check out the "DIY" sticky for tips. Good luck and happy reading !!!

look in the main thread area for headlight probs
www.hidextra.com has a good kit with everything for only 50 dollars!!!
contains 2 ballast- 2 bulbs- 2 connector wire sets

its really easy to do, clip a few wires and splice in new parts
way better than stock too
get 5000k color and 35 watt ballast system

High Marks for HIDextra

I bought and installed an HIDextra 5000K kit. One of the igniters went bad after a few days. I called them and they said they would send out a replacement. 3 days later, the package arrived and it contained not only a igniter, but also another ballast and all the wiring for one side!!!!

they have great customer service
if in doubt,,rip it out! and replace all the parts is their theory

better a happy customer tells 2 people, than an unhappy customer vents to millions

sometimes a bad part gets thru Q/C,,same as any other part or device you buy

reminder
new bulbs need about 50 hours use- to get fully bright and color settled
then they really work great!
drive with your lights on all the time to get them burned in,,easy now that its dark at 5pm
