2003 3.2 TL Pulsating

Hi I put my Tl away last oct. for the winter and when I stated it yesterday it starte3d ok but after a few minutes it stated to pulsate so I put in drive and it wasen't doing it. I looked in my Haynes book and it sort of directed me into the Fuel Pulsation Damper area. Is that right that I have to change that part. I called the Acura dealer and they said it would take 3 weeks or so to get. Can I get one any faster. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks Moe

Wait what? Your car "pulsates" and the first thing you think is something related to the word pulsation?
Check Engine codes?

My bet is the IACV is stuck.. It happens specially when you store the car.

It also happens when you store your car in a very cold climate then start it up once it gets warmer. everything needs to get back to sync so to speak.

its most likely a dirty-stuck IACV = Idle Air Control Valve inside bottom of throttle body

remove and clean or replace with aftermarket for less than 80 usd, see other current thread on subject

ck your PCV over rear valve cover- that clogs too and pressurizes the engine- forces oil out seals

I'm going to go out on a limb and translate. Pulsate in customer-speak often translates as misfire. He didn't mention a cel, though.

Give it some highway speeds, may just be carbon build up.
If it still persists whats the history on maintenance.
Could also be old gas.

Dont replace the Fuel pulsation damper unless you can prove that its not working.

I tried to run it today. After 3 minutes it starts this pulsating ,then ATS light comes on and when I put it in gear the pulsation stops and the tach stays at 1500 rpm but if I put it in Park or Neutral the pulsation comes back ?

If by pulsating you mean the idle is going up and down in rpms, it sounds like you could have air in the cooling system which can throw off the IACV (idle air control valve). You can try bleeding the cooling system

IACV= Idle Air Control Valve
there is a diy in main thread area on replacement, cleaning is just another step
May as well do it right with a full intake manifold removal to clean its internal EGR passages
Throttle Body contains IACV inside its bottom, TB comes off the car with the intake manifold- remove and work on the bench.

total time at casual pace for both jobs is 3 hours

see threads from last year on this `idle surge between 800-1500`, its a dirty iacv after winter storage

Change your PCV as well- positive crankcase ventilation, 20 bucks at dealer
