Exclamation 2002 TL SEAT BELT SAFETY RECALL

Well, I just took my car in to the dealer yesterday for the WINDOW SWITCH recall and ...
Today I received another safety recall notice from Acura.

Here is the explaination from the letter

"What is the reason for this notice?
Honda Motor Co, Ltd. has determined that certain 2002 3.2TL automobiles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Satandard 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." Some front seat belts failed to unlatch after routine buckle strength testing conducted by the seat belt manufacturer. A deformed lathing plate inside the buckle caused this failure.

The front seat belts in your car will work properly and provide protection in a crash, but you may experience dome difficulty unfastening the seat belt after a crash.

What should you do?
Call any authorized Acura automobile dealer and make an appointment to have your car inspected. If necessary, the dealer will replace the front seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Parts are now available."
[END QUOTE]

It's back to the dealer again

what is your VIN number (specfic into the thousands is fine, i'm not stalking you, really)? i heard that the seatbelt defect only affects a certain group of TL-S made. my VIN is in the 6000s so i don't know if i'm at "risk" for this defect...

Darn, I just received my notice for the seatbelt today. Should I tell them to check out the window too. Did anyone here do the same thing?

I got the recall on the seatbelt Saturday too. VIN in 4000's.

Irritating thing is had the window fixed this week and they didn't check for this so now I gotta go back!!!!!!!!!!!

I shoulda' learned to ask about other possible recalls when I had to ask them to check if my VIN was involved in the window recall while in for something else. Who expects 2 Acura recalls w/in a month of getting the car??????!!!!!!

Although... I still love driving this car.

I had my TLS for a little over a month now but haven't recieved any notices. I'm still waiting for my window recall notice to arrive. Maybe I should give the service dept a call to see what's up? Thanks for the update.

My TL-type-S was made about the first few weeks of this new model. I just had the window capacitors replaced yesterday and they were prepared to replace the front seat belt buckles, etc. and the date and stamp on my buckles indicated mine were already the new part so My car wasn't affected on the seat belt recall.

Just got my seatbelt recall notice yesterday. It says: "Call any authorized Acura automobile dealer and make an appointment to have your car inspected. If necessary, the delaer will replace the front seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Parts are now available."

This indicates to me that I may, or may not, be affected. I must take it to my Acura dealer and upon inspection THEY will determine if replacement is needed. I believe the seatbelt assembly has a batch number or some such number that the dealership must read in order to actually determine whether to replace or not. I wish you all luck, and me as well.

Not happy about this though

That's a late enough VIN, I would guess it was probably fixed at the factory in your car. Consider yourself lucky.

According to my Acura Service Manager ALL TL/TL-S's are affected by the window recall. Maybe that is why you have received no notice. I did not receive a notice either but they insisted the window recall applied to me and went ahead and replaced the necessary parts. The dealership would NOT, however, proceed with the seatbelt recall until I received an "official" recall notice; which I have just received.

My VIN number is in the 14000s so I don't know if mine was affected by the seatbelt or window recall. What I do know is the Acura dealer I bought it from (Acura of Avon CT) checks all vehicle VINs when they arrive on their lot to see if any recalls or TSBs apply and they handle them before the customer takes delivery. Obviously, if it happens after-the-fact there's nothing any dealer can do, but it's nice to know I'm not going to have to go back to the dealer within a week or two of buying the car.

My VIN is in the 7000's and I have received both, the window and the seat belt recall. However, I have not experienced any problems with my window. I was at an Acura Dealer last week for my oil change and I mentioned the window recall and also stated that I was not having any problems with my window. They made an appointment for me anyway to have the switch replaced, as well as the seat belt defect corrected. I guess they are doing "all" cars just in case of liability issues.

My VIN is in the 10K range. I had the power window fix done last week and then got the seatbelt notice two days later.

I have an appointment this friday to have the serial numbers on the seatbelt checked as well as the driver's door panel fixed. They apparently didn't reattach it correctly after the window fix. It held for a few days but is loose now. Bummer.

I am taking my baby to the dealership on Thursday and akthough I have not received ANY notices, I asked about both recalls. The service mgr told me that they have the parts for the Window recall but not all TLS are suffering from the seatbelt recall. He said he can perform a test to see if I would be affected. He also stated that he did not have the seatbelt parts in-stock (although this was late last week).

Just my $.02

Yeah My Vin is in the 7000's as well...i hadn't received the seatbelt notice by last tuesday...so when I went in for my window fix...I just asked my service rep if he could check to see if my vin# was on the list for the seatbelt recall as well...and sure enough it was so they fixed both the window and the seatbelt problem at the same time...took less than an hour. Thanks to this board I was able to save me an extra trip to the dealer oh btw..my seatbelt recall notice came in the mail this past saturday too.
