2002 TL-S...bumpy ride!
2002 TL-S...bumpy ride!
I've driven this car for a couple of months now...and I must say that, the ride is soooo bumpy ...my friend rides a Honda Accord and (I have driven his car) and the drive was a lot smoother especially on bumpy road...He's very sympathetic though..but you should see the satisfaction in his face...Accord drives smoother than a TL
Check your struts. Maybe they are leaking or one may even be blown. Still on stock suspension? From what I remember, my stocks were the smoothest ride I ever felt and no accord felt close to it.
Oh yea, choppy tires or a bent or unbalanced rim can also cause a rough ride.

I'm in an '03 TL-S 13,xxx miles, stock suspension......the ride is great. A lot of my friends have accords and I must say that the ride is very smooth. Not smoother than the TL though. IMHO
for 1 your in a TL its not sopposed to be LEXUS smooth. Its a sport sedan. (so acura would call it) 2nd the shocks and sways are different from the accord, they are designed for more performance. and lastly the TL-S has 17 with low profile tires which will also contribute to the rougher ride.
No having said that if something is wrong it would be in your shocks

my struts are blown too. but before it was blown, it used to ride on clouds. extremely smooth and no accord can come close to how our TL's ride. go replace your struts and then tell us if the accords are smoother than yours

My friend's 98 V-6 accord suspension absorbed more of the road than my Type-S. That is normal, you are comparing a family sedan to a sport sedan. The suspensions are tuned differently.
I personally like my Type-S suspension better. I get better road feel than in the Accord but that's just a preference.
As everyone else has suggested, have you car checked out. You might have something broke or damaged.

I own a 2000 V6 Accord, a 99 TLP and a 2003 TL-S. I think the TLP ride is alot smoother then the Accord. But one thing I got to say about the Tranmission. The 2000 Accord tranmission shift smoother then my 99TL. I have over 100K on the Accord and still have the original tranny.
as for the 99TL (4Speed) I have 80K with a little over 10K the second tranmission, and I just change 4 new engine and tranny mounts, still the shift is not as smooth as the 2000 Accord.
However, the 2002 TL-S (5 Speed) is smoother then the Accord but the suppension is not as smooth as the Accord. So I think it depends on the car you have and the ride might be a little different.

While were on this suspension thing, let me ask. My 02 Type S now has almost 118k miles on it. I dont know if its the stock suspension but i am guessing yes. I hear this like "er er" from the left and right rear suspension at low speeds, over small bumps etc. Its freakin annoying. I sat in the back and jumped up and down in the seat and it'll do it. I have ask acura about the replacing the shocks and they said they should be fine till like 150+. Is that right? Is there grease fittings to replace? I've seen on ebay tockio's, nothing fancy cuz i don't want any more performance than what it has, for like $300. Give me your thoughts. When i had the car aligned noone said anything was wrong with them and when i had the tires balanced and rotated they said they were wearing evenly.

Replace your shock is bad. I had the same problem making the same sound going over bumbs at low speed. I replace all 4 shock at 50K and resolved the sound problem and the ride improved alot. It really depends where you live in NYC area like my I wish my shock last over 75K

Hey, Welcome to NY!!!.
Yeh I hate driving in the city I have to keep calling 311 all the time, to fix the god dam holes near my house. Well as for the shocks, if you want to improve your ride I guess you can go with the tockio adjustable, do not get the regular tockio they sucks. If you want to stay stock go back to OEM Acura do not get KYB. I think you can get OEM Acura under $90 each online like http://www.oemacuraparts.com

just called the acura dealer here, to see how much the shocks would be installed. now i new what their answer would be, this is how much the install is, let me have you talk to parts for the price of the shocks.
so i call and sure enough, she goes its 1.5 hrs per shock of labor plus parts. i said listen, i called to ask HOW MUCH IT IS INSTALLED, not how long it takes and figure out the total myself. well sir its $135 per shock plus the shocks. i said does that include an alignment, nope, another $70. i was like, great, bye.
Are they smoking crack? Firestone is calling me back for a price.
How long should this take? Are they easy enough to do myself if i get to a lift, anything special on this car to know about?

Siocontl, the TL-S is factory tuned for performance and as a result the ride is bumpy. If you want a more comfortable ride, trade in for a TL-P, or swap your springs, shocks, sway bars, and 17" wheels/tires with those from a TL-P. The 16" wheels/tires, although look ugly, will give you an ever-enjoyable easy ride. I'm sure a lot of TL-P owners will die to do the swap with you.

I had KYB GR2 on my 99 TLP and I don't like the way it drives, so I decided to take them out install the shock on my 2000 Accord, and put OEM shock back on my TL. After I put the KYB shock on the Accord, the shock drives and feel alot batter then it was on the TL, when you go over a bumb at high speed you will feel that there's a little more rebound then the OEM TL shocks, also on turns you will feel that there is more sway then the OEM.
I did some research on the KYB shocks, I found out that they are design for the Honda Accord which is a lighter car. The shock was not design for the bigger TL, since the TL and Accord have the same shock layout design, KYB just add TL application to the same part number. OEM Accord and OEM TL shock have different valve design different gas pressure The OEM TL shock is only $15 to $20 more then the KYB on the internet. I think if you want to stay stock, you shoud go with OEM ACURA I think is worth it.
