Since its damaged, make sure you run a CarFax on it and make sure that the car doesn't have some sortof history like flood damage, or a lemon title... Otherwise it sounds good.

Also make sure that the frame wasn't damaged or even the engine. Buying a car like that is a gamble because it could be a steal or a headache. If you can get reassurance on it then 20k is a pretty good deal.

sounds like it's just around the tranny death age, if possible try to find out which dealership serviced and asked about history

Your main concern should be to see if the car has a salvage title or not. If it doesnt, its an alright deal if the car gets fixed properly. If it does have a salvage title, i wouldnt buy it.

i just got my 2002 types w/navi and chome 17"s for 22k at a dealer w/ car fax and new tranny. these things are getting traded in to dealers for below 20k by discruntled owners and then can be turned around for well below wholesale.
look for one on the web and your sure to find one with time.
oh ya mine had 29k on the odometer, but the original michelens had more than half thread left(it was driven conservatively)

the one you're looking at could be a good deal depending on extent of damage. A big thing to look at is if the airbags deployed, if not then try to make sure they were functional at time of collision and id say it's a good buy.

its just a big chance thats all. and one you really dont have to take. A good deal on a 02 typeS will put you right around 20k anyways so where's the bargain?

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
Let his insurance pay for the body repairs. Offer to pay him back for the deductable. Then buy a radiator, HIDs (but clear them first and put in 6000k bulbs and chrome blinkers). Buy the OE carbon fiber hood. And order headers, intake, exhasut, a kit, rims and tires for the $7K you would have spent buying it for $20K, probably with change to spare.

How would that be rice? Most of the people on this site have some or all of these mods with the exception of the CF hood. I would say that most people here are probably anti-rice. So how would those mods be rice? especially since the most expensive mods are in the engine?

Read above... Clear lights, chrome blinkers, CF hood (probably black on white), Exhaust (probably 4 inch tips), rims.. in your case 22 inch? Aftermarket body kit?? Every person on the road screams rice whether you want to believe it or not.

first of all don't let the avatar fool you. I doubt anyone has 22's on a TL certainly not me. I'm still stock. Second of all I also have stock exhaust tips. May go to to 3.5 inches though. Cleared light rice? Okay whatever you say boss. Scream rice if you like, but there's alot people on this bored who would disaggree with. But you're entitled to your opinion. I guess you're rollin' around purely stock. 'Cause just about any mod makes you a ricer.
