Hello all, very nice site here. I have been poking around and already am learning.

Anyways, I have this 2001 TL that was pretty much given to me, and with that I really didn't get much of a maintenance history. The car looks and runs fine but does have little things here and there of course. The car has 160,000 miles and as far as I know, original trans.

So my question is, with no history to go on, what would you be doing to keep this car running good?

I changed the oil and put sea foam in the gas tank.
The trans does have some weird moments, should I replace fluid?
Also, there seams to be some hesitation points here and there in the motor.

I would like to put very little into this car, I just drive the car because it is way better on gas than my Tundra Crewmax.

register with www.owner.acura.com have VIN handy
you can get a free owner manual download there, maitenance schedule etc
ck the RECALL section for anything OPEN

and call acura care 1 800 382 2238 x5 register with them as new owner and ask if any OPEN recalls--they send out the notices
there is a recent one on airbag inflator

engine: you will want to remove the intake manifold to clean the egr ports and passage and clean the TB, should do the IACV as well,,needed every 75kmiles, not found in any book schedule--except here!! from ziner experience

That should clear up any engine roughness, with the exception below
Other thing to ck is front and rear motor mounts are vac boosted and fluid filled
when one fails - adds mystery vac leak/engine miss to the equation
front breaks every 60k!!

good start with seafoam in gas
run 1 can in just under half a tank,
repeat in a week on another half tank,,thats 2 oz per gal fuel for max dose allowed
that gets all the stuff you want clean- super clean!

its probably ready for a new set of plugs -8$ each, NGK Iridium IX are the preferred plug/upgrade for us,
no 2 buck specials!!!
the timing belt water pump was due at 105/7years, ck coolant to see if that looks a few years old or several years old

little things: cabin air filter replacment -parts 20$, 30 minute diy
ps fluid flush
brake fluid flush..very important to be done every few years, 3 max
many of us do it every year

have a scroll thru the main gen2 thread titles- then the problems and fixes subsection
from that you will know all the regular issues..like trans probs and low beam failure

trans= please describe what it does,,shudder shifts- hard shifts- noises etc
start with a fluid inspection on dipstick for color and smell
use only honda DW1 ATF takes 3.4 qts to do 1 drain and refill, trans holds 7.3 but half is hiding in the TC
its a drain plug, not like most cars of the old days
Clean shift selenoids/pressure switches for 3/4 gear
Look for blue paint on bolts heads on main trans bolts and accessory bolted to trans
thats an acura warranty replaced unit
