2001 TL 3.2 w/ NAV -- Pricing?!

Hi guys, I'm looking at a 2001 Acura TL 3.2 with Navigation, 39400 miles, for $18,900. This is at Scottsdale Infiniti in Arizona. The sticker on the car is $22,500; I laughed when the salesman told me. It's also listed on eBay; I called that guy and he told me the wholesale value was $18,900, and he could sell it for that.

I test drove the car today and was pretty pleased. I can't believe Acuras don't have an auto-headlight switch... my 1997 Lexus ES300 had one... but I wrecked it, and that's why I'm looking for a new car. I haven't driven it at night, but I like the HIDs. SportShift seems fun, but I can't afford any more tickets or points on my record. After driving it, the salesman told me that the $18,900 price was very firm. I just said, "OK," but I think he knew I was excited about the car from my various reactions to it.

The salespeople were friendly and nice and seemed very accomodating. I asked them for the latest NAV disc and they said they could get that for me. I pointed out a couple very small dents above the right rear wheel well and the salesman said he'd have those taken care of. I also said I'd like tinting and he said he'd take care of that. I was really close to buying the car right then, but I held off.

Is $18,900 a good price? Should I keep an eye out for a better deal? I haven't seen anything better around here, except for cars with 60k+ miles. I bought my Lexus with a ton of miles on it and I vowed that my next car would have as few as possible. I want to make sure, though, that I'm not getting screwed in pricing for trying to get as few miles as possible.

I'm going to Vegas this weekend with my dad; I saw a 2002 TL-S that looked really cool, so I might consider that, too. I'm going to school at ASU; my home is Indianapolis. If you guys don't think the $18,900 price is very good, I'll look around at home, too. I saw an '02 TL-S with 65k miles for $16,900, but the listing was a month ago and probably expired.

Anyway, I guess I said all that to say this... 2001 TL w/ Nav, 39k miles, 3 months remaining on the original 4yr/50k mile warranty --- is $18,900 a good deal? I don't think there's much room for negotiation with the dealership, but I guess I'm getting a few bonuses thrown in, like tinting and newest NAVI disc, too.

as far as auto headlights, you can just turn the light switch on and leave it on, they go off automatically when you get out of the car. I have never touched that light switch since I got my 2001 tl.

I guess it's an ok deal. My tl had 53,000 miles on it and no navigation, but I got it for around 16,000 including a 3 year extended warranty. Trade in value is around 17,250 I believe according to kelly blue book, but that is in excellent condition. I wouldnt pay more than 17,000 for it though, just because you can get '02 models for the price they are asking.

Just check carfax with your VIN# and make sure all checks out. I like my '01TL w/ Navi. I have it for 4 years now and just replaced the battery.

I can't say if it's a good deal or not, but here's a comparison for you:

Last April/May I bought a 2001 TL w/ Nav, 55K on the odo, Silver, tinted all around, one-owner, it does have a few dings, but not much, bought the car in Dallas off eBay. No maintenance record.

I paid $14,900. Not from an Acura dealer, though (it was a dealer, just not an Acura dealer).

Too much! Don't pay that for an 01 TL under any circumstances. The car is starting to look dated (though still classy), especially since the facelift of 02 and the complete redesign of 04. In Atlanta, Acura dealers will ask $18,900 for 01 TLs but they will come off significantly. I looked at a black 2003 CL-S 6spd with 32k miles and the asking price was $26k, but when I said I just didn't want the car the sales manager told me he could get me in the car for less than $21k and to not pay any attention to the prices on the used Acuras on the lot. This was at Nalley Acura on Cobb Parkway in Marietta, if anyone is wondering.

I'd give them $16,000 and not a penny more, and it would have to mean that the car was certified. And that's $16,000 out the door, not starting. But hey, the market in Atlanta will let you do that, I dunno how it is where you live. Best of luck!

I'm in Phoenix, AZ... obviously a major metropolitan area, one would hope there would be tons of competition. Yeah, $18,900 is definitely a ton... I was going to offer $17,7 and hope to end up around $18,2 -- with all the things I wanted thrown in. But I guess I should keep looking!
