2001 Acura 3.2 TL

I am hearing a knocking sound under the hood whenever I started to drive or driving along. I went to a mechanic and said it could be the upper control arms. If that so,is it necessary to replace both control arms.i can actually feel it whenever I make turns or pressing the gas pedal. .thanks

I'd take it to the dealer for an oil change and ask the service manager to have someone take a look while it is up on the lift.

Could be sway bar links or sway bar bushings. Could also be the upper control arms yes. Maybe even the motor mounts.

You need to be a little more specific about the noise.. do you hear it going over bumps or on flat ground, do you hear it going fast or going slow, do you hear it turning or going straight etc..

rather than ask a mechanic to guess at random what your car needs
Have it put on the lift and inspected- an alignment shop is a good start- NOT one of the big name places, a local place that will look - twist turn and rock the various parts to ck them all
After replacements they do the needed alignment

while our LF Upper control arm is a popular failure its not mandatory to do other side- all depends on each parts condition

Some parts, when directly connected to the failure or are labor related, may as well do while in there
the car is getting on and rubber parts wear out

^^^ Yeah, most alignment shops will look over your car's front suspension and give you an estimate of any necessary repairs for free. With our TL's starting to get older and over 100k .....most anything can start to wear and cause problems. Bushings, bearings, ball joints, links, rods .....etc.

The individual upper control arm's ball joint is replaceable, it's not always necessary to replace both arms unless that's what ya wanna do. Make sure that the other steering & suspension components are checked.
