Question 2001 330Ci vs. 2002 TL type s

My '01 330Ci can burn practically any TL type-s that is out there. I can pull 0 - 60 in 5.8 easily. Suspension is much better than the '02 TL. Even though 330CI is a compact and TL is midsize, they are comparable regardless of size. The 260hp is smooth, but what is it if a 225hp engine can out accelerate the TL? My opionion is to go with the 330Ci if anyone is thinking about it. IT looks a lot nicer too.

If you feel so confident, then why are you here in this forum ?!!! Need some re-assurance do you, that you made the right decision to go with the BMW, by paying through your nose for a stripped out compact (assuming you bought the version comparable in price to the TL-s) ?

People have different tastes. You like your bimmer, we like our TL. There shouldn't be any hate going around. How would you like it if i went to the BMW fourm and said.. My E55 is better than your 540... Well, no $hit, you paid more for it, its more of a car, and you are getting more car for your money. The TL type S is more built for Luxury performance as opposed to Performance Luxury. You shouldn't talk like that to anybody, because life is all based on opinion. If you want to make a fight, then you are showing us, Acura Fans how immature some 330i owners can be. You think you have a better car, good for you. I personally enjoy my car more than anything on this earth, and that what counts.

Hmmm...let's see. Am I going to pay anywhere between $38k - 43 for a 330 compared to a fully equipped TL for say $30k or less over a 1 second differential from 0-60? Cmon..you can do better than and I tell you this, don't let 5.9 fool ya cause believe I know of a TL that can probably smoke ya....laters!

Red face

WHY in the world would u pay around 8 - 13 grand more for one second difference? for the looks? i agree that the TL isnt as "good lookin" as the 330CI but when its souped up, its STYLING. Comfort, Luxury, and quality for better than bmw. Maintinance cost less as well. in the long run you'll spend a sh*t load of money while we spend a fraction of that and use the rest of it for a new car while u still have that shit box ~!!!! !!!!

Yeah, and my motorcycle can beat your 330. TL and the little Bimmer are 2 very different cars. Why don't you go pick on the IS300 people or the A4 people - that's your competition.

In the meanwhile, I'm going to guess that you're about 17 years old and your parents both bought the car and also hold the title. Is the car really yours? Your immature attitude makes it hard to believe that you're capable of sustaining a job sufficient of covering the payments on that car. Perhaps you inherited the money? Hmm, that's something to be proud of.

I think this is a joke and someone is just goading us here. But if they are for real, read on for my response. -

Let's see, 4 10ths second of a difference?

That cost you about $2500 per 10th of a second.

I can spend $500 and gain 1/2 sec and can beat the 330Ci. And still pocket $9500. I'm laughing all the way to the bank.

BTW - if your 330ci is stock, bring it on. I bet my driving skills will be all it takes to make up the 4 10th of a second difference. I've already beaten cars faster than the 330Ci.

You are so the man, I wish I were you. Hey, if I pay you $15,000 will you let me be your friend?
My opinion is that the 330 looks and is played out, is small, and is overpriced. It is a great car, but not worth the money. I think most people who buy them buy them b/c they want't to own a BMW, and there's nothing wrong with that, but that alone does not make it a better car than others.
If you can justify spending an extra $8-10K to say you own a BMW 3series, I say be a real man and spend an extra $35K and get a 911. That is money well spent, otherwise go drive around in your little overpriced car.

i have a 01 330ci, but in auto, you can't compare the two cars. I like both and between my 99 TL they both have their different advantages. When I just wanna cruise or something I'd prob take the Ci, but the TL can hold more people and the ride is better. The Bimmer is a bit more harsh. Either way, I'm happy I got a acura even though I got a bimmer and its all about peoples prefrence

That's very interesting. I was just watching Jon Davis's weekly automotive show on Speed Vision this morning. They were reviewing the new BMW 330 xi. The stats for the 330 si is 0-60 in 6.8 secs, while the x is 6.6. The stats on the TL (non S type) is 0-60 in 6.7. I don't know what the stats on the TL type S is, but it sounds like the non type S TL can beat your car, and I wonder what the Type S would do. Probably rip your bimmer to shreds. Just be forewarned. I'd hate to see you get totally embarassed out there on the streets trying to race a TL.

I also find it interesting he cares about HP on the 0-60 stat when Torque is what will make the difference there...every one knows Honda's are famous for not having the best Torque stats, but give us that extra money it costs for the BMW and we'll put into some mods that will toast that little 3.0L !!!!
(ok, I know, we aren't much bigger then 3.0 ourselves)

The 3 series is too small for many men. I'm 6'1" and I would go out of my mind with how cramped that car feels.

Yep, few of my friends got the 323i, 330i and 328 Ci. I have to say that it's fun to drive the car, but a living hell to sit at the back. The front is just okay...

Hey dkang216...why dont you pick up the July issue of Car and Driver and read the TL-S short take article. They got the TL-S to 60 in 6.2 seconds and they explicitly write in the article that THE TL-S IS FASTER THAN THE 330Ci MANUAL TO 100MPH BY 0.6 SECONDS. So why dont you check your facts before you post garbage.

You comparing a dog and a cat here. You are basically saying that a dog barks better a cat miaows, you know what I mean. They are different cars. As you said midsize 4dr and compact 2dr, which shows you do have some wisdom. But got to ask you where did you go to elementary.

Duh. It's STILL a smooth running 260hp V6.

Another BMW lover who suspisciously leaves out RELIABILITY in his equation. My normal TL (non TL-S) will out-accelerate yours 50% of the time... because your 330i is in the shop most of the time.

Enjoying that Metro lender? haha "Just wait 'til my beemer gets out of the shop you big Acura bully! I'll show you!"

I like the sound of a dog's bark much better than a cat's meow, if that's anything to anyone. Besides, why would I go around callin' myself C-Dog? I'd like to see someone answer that question.

I'd trade my TL for a 330Ci. I think it's a bad ass car whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

You can pay for a name, or you can pay a lost less and get much better quality. Most people with BMW's I've talked to kick themselves in the a$$ a few years down the road when their tranny needs to be rebuilt.
