Post 2000TL W/CAI VS. CL-S

Was racing last night over in burbank california. Just so happened to run into a brand new red CL-S. We decided to take the race down the street where there werent so many rice rockets. He was bone stock, all i have is a AEM cai. When we launched he immediately took a half a car's length. By the time we were flying down the street
at 100 he was less then 2 feet ahead of me... We ran it twice and he beat me by about the same distance. Im thinking...
Intake-Headers-Exhaust-CHip-Pulleys-(custom cam from japan)-V-AFC- 60shotNOS - Will make the CL-S #!@!#@!@#!

hey just wondering but what is the ride like with JUST the aem cai. I'm thinking of doing only that engine mod.. is it louder? Does it feel faster? actually mainly i wanna know if it makes the engine louder cause i dont really want that.

The intake is very loud when your VTEC kicks in around 4200 rpms. I notice somewhat of a gain in horsepower... maybe 7-10 hp. The sound is very loud because the K&N Air filter attached to the intake is located right next to your front left wheel (where all the sound extrudes) replacing than your stock air box and resonator box.

Duh!

I/H/E= around 30+ hp
chip?- don't think anyone makes it (or just noboby's done it)
pulleys= 6? hp (but could cause engine problems)
V-AFC= lower VTEC point (but not much more according to this board- Tann I believe)
NOS- 60 shot = 60 hp (70 shot is also pretty safe for TL's)

That's around 100+ hp, there's no question that will crap on a CL-S, but it would be damn expensive. It is worth it? That's up to you.

Actually,

I/H/E= less than 30HP
VAFC= 5HP if tuned correctly
The rest I don't know cuz never had it.

Picky, picky, picky

you're right though... I just looked it up and on a 99, I/H = +17.9 HP so assuming the intake gives about 6-7 hp (i haven't seen an exact figure) it would be like a 24-25 HP gain.

The VAFC doesn't sound like a lot of gain for the money at only +5 hp, but lowering the VTEC range and losing some of the "turbo lag" feel... priceless

Check out this dyno chart
Headers and intake could give you about 30HP.
I'd skip the exhaust. I don't want the car to be any louder. It IS a family car after all.

I wish they'd update and show a 2000 as well to see if there is a difference.

Thumbs down

there is no such thing as an intake that adds 30 hp to the wheels.

Boy, that exhaust does almost nothing!
Bahree, I really don't want the sound from the exhaust or intake no matter how good it sounds. I'd rather not hear it in my TLS.
I'd love to hear it if I have a modena.
