Change your belt when you want to. If you WANT to follow Honda due it at 105K, if you want to set it on your own time, the risk is yours.

PS - do any of us work here? Seems a bunch of us are always on the board.HA!

I finally bought all the parts. Timing belt, drive belts, water pump, and UR OE size crank pulley!! I've only got 83.5K miles on it but it is a 2000 so this belt is pretty old.

wrong.........timing chains will stretch over time and need to be replaced if the timing gets too far off....

Mine is Getting ready to go in This week... This is all the fun I'm getting done lol... I like the looks on their faces when I show them and explain the printouts lol... many of them don't think our valvetrain can be adjusted!

A full spraying out of the TB and IAC should be done with the intake manifold off for the other jobs. make sure to clean the intake manifold ports and passages inside with carb spray or a solvent tank, and clean the EGR port really well- its sits at the end of the manifold and will be filled with crud- may require drill bit to hand-grind it away.

-Replace Power Steering Fluid (Honda) 2 bottles

-Replace Brake Fluid (Synthetic) Usually takes 1-1.5qts

- Fix/Replace Windshield Wiper Linkage part numbers 76550-S0K-A01 & 76540-S0K-A01

---------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to get all the parts that generally don't last till 210k miles

Here are the parts that I'm wondering if I should change now at 105k miles:

Engine Cooling Thermostat
Upper/Lower Radiator Hoses
-ADJUSTER, TIMING BELT - #14510-PGE-A01 (I think this is the non hydraulic one)

I'm trying to get all this done for $1000 lol

I just want to drive it worry free

Mine is 2000 with 52000 miles on. I am thinking of chaning t-belt, all engines seals, tensioner, all other belts due to age. I am also considering changing both upper and lower radiator hoses, however, the shop owner told me that's too soon for the radiator hoses.

I got all my timing and stuff changed yest and its rollin like a champ. However I recieved the wrong belt for the ac tensioner so I still got the old one on till the correct belt arrives. The whining noise I had is pretty much gone already now though.

There was one if i remember right (but i dont know if we ever heard if it was the belt that caused it)

That said our engines are Interference motors, meaning if the belt goes so does your motor. Especially if your given er

Mine has 96,000 km (60,000 mi) and it still has the original TB (the 7-year time limit is now exceeded). Since the TB replacement is expensive, I want to have some idea how much longer I can defer the expense. Thanks.
My 2000 still has the original belt...miles 37,7xx.

My '00 TL still has the original timing belt and the original battery at around 83,000km.

They are both due for replacement, no doubt.

So far the best rate among Acura dealers comes from North Shore Acura.

I think I'd go to them given their good reputation.

150K Report on T belt Change- My Verdict Is In

I promised a report (see 11-21 & 24, 2007 - sorry for the long thread). I changed out the timing belt in my 99 TL at 151790 miles and 10 years. I waited for a sunny warm day here in the Puget Sound area, and got it last weekend. To get ahead of my story, the day after I made the change, I picked up the "old" belt off the garage floor to take a close look and noticed it was in very good shape and then seeing the shiny black color a panic feeling took over that I had put the old belt back in. Looking further along the belt I realized I was looking at a portion that had gotten power steering fluid on it. The old belt had no frays, bends, scuffs, or any mark to indicate wear or potential for failure. It was not as shiny as the new one, except spots with steering fluid, and it did have some discoloration on the backside between the teeth. But check the photos. Failure of the belt at 150K and at 10 years has to be some catrastophic break as from a defective belt. I just don't see it reasonably happening. Next change? 300K.

Thanks for the update!

I started reading this thread from the beginning and I wondered if you would get a chance to post an update.

Congratulations on hitting your 150,000 miles goal without a problem.

This has been mentioned previously but I'm not sure if visual inspections can tell you that the belt has much life left.

Also, was there a manufacture date on the belt you just installed? If not, what if it had been sitting on a shelf somewhere for 5 or 10 years? Could that significantly reduce its life?

I'm on the original timing belt on a 99 TL with 171,300 miles!! - really would like to change it in the next month or so. I took the top timing belt cover off at around 170k miles for inspection and it seems to be in good condition considering the age/mileage. Now is the decision to either bring it to a shop or do it myself..seems like the hardest part is removing that crank pulley bolt.

That's my impression also, especially after looking at some of the homemade wrench extenders and wood supports that were used by some forum members to break that loose.
