2000 TL IM swap

Hi I'm new to the forum but I've been following for a while. I own a 99 TL and I wanted to do a engine cover paint job but I'm not a fan of my current engine cover. Is it feasible to fit a 2000 TL Intake manifold onto a 99 engine with out any modification so I can have the 2000 TL engine cover? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the 99 has a very different intake than the other years. You can remove the plastic cover and use a polish to shine the manifold up. I've seen it clean up pretty good this way.

Agreed. I'm actually doing this right now to my upper IM. Don't know about pre-99 but 2000 and later used aluminum alloy and it's polishes out quite well. Just get a grinder (must be atleast 3/4hp and spin 12k rpm or more) and remove the safety shield that surrounds the grinding disc. Remove the disc itself as well and put a polishing wheel on instead. Home Depot sells a kit for $20-30 that includes the wheels and also the polishing compound. Make sure the polishing wheels have the same diameter holes as the grinder itself or you can make it fit like it did! Using a torch, heat the surface of the metal to be polished up to about 200 degrees and start polishing unidirectionally. It takes a while but brings out a shine and luster that is amazing. I myself did not remove the paint first and just allowed the polisher to do this part. First time I've ever polished anything and it's turning out to be pretty nice.

It would probably be a good idea to remove it and clean out the inside as well. It doesn't take very long and there's even a DIY on here for it. That will give you a chance to also install an intake thermal gasket and also one on throttle body too if you'd like.

Thanks for the advice, but it's not really the manifold I'm after, I wanted the 2000 engine cover cause I wanted to paint it as well as battery cover. I liked the 2000 engine cover a lot better then the one I have but I know id have to switch out the IM too that's why I wanted to know if it would fit.

Unfortunately the IM will not fit over the 99TL fuel rails and injectors. To do it you'd have to swap out the entire intake tract (injector bases, fuel rails, fpr, injectors). I replaced mine with the TypeS intake manifold and that's what I had to do.
