2 questions...Guru's please help!!!!

I have a check engine light on for the last 8 months or so and I have been driving like this withouht any problems. Its about the time for the annual emmission and safety inspection which would not get passed if there is any check engine light. So to get it passed I played a little trick and reset the computer by removing the ECU fuse which resets your computer. The check engine light disappeared(but from my last exeprieince 8 months ago, I know it came back, cant remember how long it took..may be few days)

Yesterday I went to Firestone for annual emmission & safety inspection. They Failed the emmissions test They said the computer is not ready for scanning yet???? wtf.
They told me that come back within one month for free re-test. My 45$ are on hold till then
Question 1: how long does it take before the computer will be ready for rescanning after reset/ fully reiniitializzed/rebooted?

Question 2: The error code was something like "Auxiallary emmission control unit" ? Any idea what is it ?

Thanks in advance for the help

I did the same thing with my van a few years ago, excpet I just disconnected the battery to reset it. When I took it for inspection, the mechanic ( a friend of mine) asked me about it and I told him I had disconnected the battery. He told me it had to be driven for like 60 miiles ( I think) to reset it, so he took it for a drive that day for me and it passed.

Good luck !!

removing the battery does the same thing as the ECU fuse. The only difference between your and my version is that the machanic was your freind. I took it to Firestones and they are not freinds with any one....

Here's a wild idea....how bout you take the car to AutoZone and have the code read so you know what's actually wrong with the car.

You'll never pass the inspection until you fix the problem.
