2 Questions about navi. . .

Hey, I have a 99 TL with navi and I had 2 questions:

1) Today when I turned the car on the navi display said "hard drive error" contact your local dealer". I turned the car off, and right back on, and everything was fine...and it has been fine since. Anyone else have this happen? Does this happen every so often? Or could this be a sign of the PCMCIA hard drive about to die???

2) I currently have ver. 1.14 for my navi. I spoke to the Acura dealer and they said I could update as hgih as version 2.01 for $60, I just have to bring the hard drive card in. Is this a reasonable price? Are there ways to do it myself for cheaper??

Thanks a lot

Ok, first go to this site to answer all your questions. The guys name is Paul, he is a member of this site and has helped me many times. My NAVI did the same thing when I first got it. Basically the hard drive itself is going bad...after years of vibration thats what happens. You can buy the Flash card from Paul and that will solve all your problems...no moving parts.

Also dont pay for that update from the dealer!!! you can get a Flash card from Paul with the newest version for not much more.

just so you know

i went to acura of lynnwood last month and they upgraded my 1999 hard drive navigation to the latest software version for free. the most current upgrade was released in 2002, so its not the most up to date, but at least they didnt charge me for it either.

i would call the dealerships surrounding you and tell them you would like the upgrade. if they attempt to charge you, just let them know that many dealerships across the country are offering it free of charge these days. if it makes them feel any better, just tell them you would like to get your oil changed there or some other minor service.

the whole process actually only requires you to remove your hard disk (2 seconds), give it to the parts guy who will connect it to their computer. 30 minutes later, they will hand the hard drive back to you and you will insert back into its slot in your navi.

hope that helps you. otherwise the compact flash solution is a very good one too.

take care
