1st Time At The Track

Last week I went to US 41 Dragway in Indiana and ran about a dozen passes. My last 3 were the best I can do. I brake torqed and was using S.S. Tires were at 30psi in the fronts.

Reaction: .698
60 FT : 2.151
1/4 : 14.534 @95mph
vs. 04 G35X...pulled a 14.507 all stock with only a 350z tube. Good race!

Reaction: .952
60 FT : 2.169
1/4 : 14.518 @97mph

Reaction: .706
60 FT : 2.196
1/4 : 14.516 @98mph

A buddy of mine was running 14.2's with his 97 M3 and there were a couple of G35 coupe's running 14.2's. The Infinity guys were good peoples.

My Ride: 03 TL-S Navi ABP w/factory body kit, Comptech Icebox, Comptech Headers, Comptech Exhaust, Hyper Ground Wires, lowered by Tein SS, Comptech Sways and Titanium Strut Tower, Slotted and Dimpled Rotors w/stainless steel brake lines and ceramic pads, Yokahama Avids on stock rims, Autovation sills and pedals, MOMO shift knob.

I noticed a little inprovement in torque. I should have made my own rather than spend over $100 for them.

Damn, I really need to get new tires. I'm still rolling on the stockers, and the best 60' time I've been able to pull off was 2.269. But I still ran 14.5@99. I think I could run low-14's with better tires.

i don't think gate shifting will be able to lower your time... just stick with SS w/ VSA off

Personally, I always do better with gate-shifting. But it's such a bitch to get the shifting point just right so you don't hit the rev limiter, while maxing out the RPM.

According to my V-AFC II, I shifted at 6896 RPM (4 RPM short of redline) the other day, so if I could shift like that every time, that'd be beautiful.

Good times, congrats. What brand is your rotors and pads? I'm looking to upgrade mine. Thanks.

Tires make a HUGE difference. I went from high mileage tires (14.8 or so on the 1/4 mile) to some Pirellis

I'm now doing 14.57

UR crank pulley (you will love that mod) then maybe lightweight wheels I predict 14.2 or so. Very good times BTW. You know how to set up the car and drive.

Those are good times but what prepping did you do at the track? ... Things that will help you out:

- Remove spare tire from the trunk
- Lower tire pressure in the front to about 20-22psi, increase rear tire pressure to about 40psi
- Adjust your Tein SS suspension to ride softer in the front, and harder in the back (I usually run about 8 in the front, and 2 in the back at the track) - It will help prevent wheel hop in the front by making the suspension a little soft and force your weight transfer to the front by having the back stiff ... Same with the tires.

If you do all of these things you should be able to shave at least 1/10th off your 1/4 mile time, maybe more if you get a good launch.

With stock rims, and tires and even with the spare in my trunk but the tire pressure adjusted and the tein SS dampening rate adjusted I've been able to pull 2.10XX 60' times. My actuator was broken at the time, so after that I was running like shit .. but I'd expect to run something like a 14.3 or 14.2.

Thanks Liqice for the advice, along with the others who provided some suggestions. My Teins are set up in 8's all around and I removed the spare tire. Had close to a full tank of gas though. I will remember your advice next time around.

Great times, now all you need to do is work at your reaction time and your car times will be even better!

I suggest getting ready to take off at the last yellow instead of waiting for the green, which you probably did. If you get that instant right before the light turns green, your reaction times will almost always be .200 or lower.
