1999 TL transmission story

I know your thinking ANOTHER transmission thread. I thought I'd post this in case someone else has had similar issues. About 5k miles ago my trans started shifting harder into reverse. Then a little while later it started slipping a few hundred RPMs from 2-3. Then 1-2, then 3-4 also. It always seemed to get better once it was warmed up though because then it would shift perfect. Soon it started to slip as much as 800 RPM on any gear warm or cold, and would really slam hard when downshifting. Other times it would be all but normal.

I took it into a local (reputable) transmission shop after being quoted $3950 from Acura dealership for a rebuild (my car has 126k on it so they would not help me out at all with warranty). Trans shop said it would be $3300 to rebuild or they could get me a used trans for $2200 - chose the used. Paid on 1/7/08. First used trans showed up - its case was cracked, and had to be sent back. 2nd used trans showed up - completely wrong trans. 3rd time (4 weeks later after payment) not on truck and company would not give a date for delivery. Shop said ok we'll just rebuild it for what we quoted used would be ($2200) bring it in next week. Fine sounds good. 3 days after I take it in Friday afternoon- it is supposed to be done. I drive off - it is exactly the same. Call on Monday - they say ok well bring it back and we'll look at it again. 2 weeks later, they have completely taken it out couldn't find anything wrong so they put it back together. They tell me still not right. No change, still screwed up. I've been without a car for about 4 weeks now. Finally, I bring it back and they tear it out for the third time. They have now replaced all clutch packs, torque converter, all electronics, seals, filter, etc. Put it back in last week (4/3/08) IT IS STILL doing it. By this time (3 months after I have paid $2200) and have been without a car for nearly 6 weeks I'm really tired of this whole mess. The shop is completely frustrated. Yesterday I picked up my car and they are going to give me my money back. SO here I am 3 months later, and my car is still screwed up. I'm working with a friend now who is a really good mechanic to see if he can figure it out. Trans will be out for the 4th time this Sat...

sucks man!
if u get your 2200 back from the shop, you'll be better off getting it fixed at acura for $3300 (if your bugdet allows you to) since they would know whats going on with the car and get it done for you within a week or so
just an opinion...
GOOD LUCK!

Actually Acura dealership want's $3950 for a rebuild unit. That is not within my budget unfortunately. The car is probably only worth $6k if it was running right...
