1999 TL Shift Knob
#5
So I got it off and bought a wooden shift knob from E-bay and found out that the knob is to small and wont even go onto my shifter. This sucks. I thought it was a insert I could probably buy from Acura but they stated that they only sell knobs for its specific car. I even asked when I bought the knob and he said it was on a TL. So Im guessing I may have to fab it by drilling and tapping. Any suggestions?

The easiest fix (besides getting a new shift knob) would be to drill and tap the knob. I would check first if you have enough metal leftover for support.

You gotta drill it out.
I believe it's a 3/8" bit that you'll need to use. Then re thread it. Its very easy. Took me about 30 minutes. Make sure you rethread it slowly or you will strip it.

I got mine on E-bay and its a OEM Acura wood shift knob. I guess the diameter is different as the years went on.
acura3.2tLv.....As for drilling it. I was at homedepot about to buy the drill and tap and this guy who is supposilly a Car guy himself told me I can drill it and tap it because I may strip it. Even if you go slow its not possible. How you figure Ive seen people do it carefully and works great. Anyways....besides the point. So I can drill it and retap it?

Man return that item you bought, if you can or resell it here in private sales. Then buy the universal shift knob I got. you could easily sell that shift knob for 70.00 on this site. It's brand new and costs 100.00 on autocarparts so i am sure someone will want to save some money and pay you 70.00 for it. then buy the universal shift knob on ebay for 50.00. that way you actually won't lose any money.
