1999 Acura Headlight help !!!
Hello...
I got a 1999 Acura tl, and I just got my car (it is a used car). Recently, I noticed that when I turn on the headlight, it is white. HOWEVER, after a few minutes (like 4 minutes) it become yellow (and stay yellow for the rest of the trip). It happens everytime i turn on the headlight.
DO you know what happen to my headlight?
should i change it?
What is the number (90005 or what?)
Thanks

this is the low beam right? It sounds like the HID bulbs are getting old and color fading. The bulbs are D2R xenon bulbs, and are kinda tricky to change. You can try to find something that says how to change em and see if you wanna do it yourself or take it in.
And also, dont know if this problem is in both the headlights or just one, but if you change one, the color of the new bulb will probably be different than the other one, just something about HID's.
and fyi, 9005 is the bulb number for the high beams, which are halogen

I see what u saying, but more questions...(sorry i am kinda newbie to these things)
1. When u said low beam, do you mean that headlight that we use normally? And high beam is the headlight we used to signal people or during the very dark road?
2.My car is 1999 Acura TL, and you said my car has HID light bulb in it. Does this means that there is already HID kit in my car originally?
3.How much is a HID light bulb usually?
4.Can I put a blue HID light in my car. I heard my friend changed his Honda Accord's light to blue (I think he used 90005 lightbulb), and he told me the lightbulb does not last very long. If I change my light to blue (use hid lightbulb), will the lightbulb last long?
thanks

1. yeah, the low beams are what you usually use.
2. yes, all TL's came with HID bulbs. There MIGHT be some exceptions, like if its a canadian car, not too sure. But all TL's sold in America from 99+ have HIDs.
3. a bulb from the dealer can be $100+, but you can usually find some pretty good deals in the black market of this forum or on ebay. I bought one for $50 on ebay once.
4. there are different color temperatures of HID bulbs. The ones you will find in our cars is rated at 4300K, which is right around pure white. They do sell bulbs that have higher color temperatures which are bluer, usually 5000K, 6000K, 8000K, and 10,000K. But be aware that the higher up you go, the bluer it gets, but you lose usable light output. I wouldn't suggest getting anything other than 4300K, but if you really want something bluer, i wouldnt go above 6000K. And as for how long it lasts, HID bulbs usually last a very very long time so that shouldnt be a problem.
Not sure what your friend did, he might have bought a plug and play HID kit, or he might have bought some of those cheap "xenon" knockoffs that are just regular halogen bulbs tinted blue. The former usually works fine, the latter is no good.
D2R is the model number for the bulbs. Like if you wanted to search on ebay, you would just search "D2R". Make sure you don't get a D2S bulb, those bulbs have a different base and wont fit.

or your friend says it doesn't last long cuz he might touch the glasses of the HID bulb and that causes the bulb to be broken.
If you do it yourself, remember not to touch the glass part of the HID bulb.

on ebay you can buy the stock ones by the pair for like $80, don't go to autozone or advanced, D2R's there cost $153+ for one bulb.
you will probably want to disconnect the negative from the battery first as the ballast puts out high voltage.
to access the bulb area, you will need a torx (sp?)(it's like a octagonal shape) screwdriver to unscrew the screw out of the HID housing. once the screw is out, twist the housing clockwise (as you are facing the front of the car) and the housing should come loose, you'll see the ballast and other things, and the bulb is connected, disconnect the bulb plug and loosen (but don't take them out) the screws just a lil bit to be able to move the wire that is holding the bulb in place. take out the old bulb, put in the new one (remember not to touch the glass) and reseat the wire that secures the bulb. (I think that was the hardest part for me haha). and then reconnect everything. it's not that hard, just doing the driverside should be a lil harder since you don't have much room to work with. i'm giving you information from my experience, i am in no way liable to what you mess up

I know it's long time ago since you reply to this thread, but I am decideding to buy a pair of new D2R 6000K light bulb. But, when you said
" But be aware that the higher up you go, the bluer it gets, but you lose usable light output"
Can you explain that a little bit, what does it mean that you said "lose usable light output"?
Thank you very much
The higher the temperature of the bulb you get, the less visibility there will be at further distances..
for instance, the stock bulb (4300K) which is the best possible bulb for your car, will allow you to see a further distance away than a 6000K bulb..

has anyone used the philips limited edition 5000 d2r bulbs? they are supposed to color shift quicker. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these before I decide to purchase them. Thanks in advance.
