Post 1999 Acura 3.2TL - Shortchanged just a little

Don't get me wrong my fellow TL owners. I just saw a posting a while back about this issue. I have a 99 Acura 3.2TL and I love this car. Best I have had so far. But I do feel a little shortchanged due to the 2000 year had a 5 speed autoshift and also side airbags. These seemed like major changes that should have been implemented in the opening 1999 model.

Oh well. I am getting over it now and can't stop thinking about the new Type S. I am sure the Type S will make me forget all about this. Thanks for listening!

Look at the bright side, we get to engine brake to first gear in SS mode and 2000+ model's can't!

I agreee with you. I remember when I was in the dealership, the guy told me not to expect any major changes in the 2000 model. Well I'd say they were fairly major. I have read on this forum though, that the current 5 speed, will shift automatically in SS mode if you push it to the limits. At least we have more control.

I love you guys! LOL! Thanks for the pep talk and at least they did not change the body style! HA! Just kidding.

Side Air bags and 5 Speed SS would still have been nice though. Come on Acura, at least give me the Side AIR BAG! LOL!

If the Type S had just come out in 2000 and I had just bought my 1999, I would have gone crazy. At least it took a couple of years to gradually come out and then hit me.

I need a 2002 Type S - Silver with NAV. Just hope the 2003 Type S, doesn't change too much on me! :-)

Awww, quit yer *****in and enjoy your cars!

Cars will always get better every few years - and over the long run? Man, consider the 70's Hondas compared to today, for example the Civic CVCC vs. '01 Civic Si.

Then again, I can remember back in the day when "I drive an imported car" more or less meant that you drove a cheap piece of crap. The times be a changin...

Gomez,

You must be kicking yourself just a little for getting a 2001 model, when the Type S is right around the corner.

But you do bring up a good point to just enjoy what you drive. But still always research before you buy on what is coming out soon or next. We all want the latest and the greatest.

Unless you lease, you will probably never have the latest and greatest. If you own your car then you may get to have the latest and greatest every 7 years or so give or take a couple of years depending on personal preference and finances.

I would not worry a great deal about new model changes. Regardless of what comes out, most of you guys have a TL no earlier than a 1999 model. Count your blessings. You have a great luxury car that has got a little bit of speed to it, that has honda reliablility, and has the acura name on it. You have a great late model car that brings with it a feel of luxury and performance. So don't sweat it too much if you don't have the newest and best, you are in a pretty good situation with what you have now.

Soundspeed,
Thanks for the comforting words and I hear what you are saying which makes sense. But you know with us guys, when it comes to electronics, computers and cars, we want more power and bells and whistles. You can't say it better than just having the latest and the greatest. But this is also not realistic either. I am still fighting with myself on this one! LOL! By the way the Pentium 4, 1.5 Ghz is available now! LOL!Thanks again.

I could kick myself for getting a 2001... but I waited until 2001 came out, I almost got a 2000. No way I was going to wait for the type S. They'll always come out with the next level, no way you can keep up. I'm happy as hell with what I have and it'll be so pimped out 2002 TL-S owners will be jocking, talking about damn I wish I got a 2001, ya know what I'm sayin!

That is a good attitude. This 99 Owner needs to think that way too. Not sure how long it will last me, but hopefully it will work!

I love my 1999 TL, I didn't care when the 2000 model have side airbags and 5 speed tranny.

Question

Has anyone actually raced a 99 vs a 00 or 01 from a dead stop? F=ma said that he did before from a rolling start and it was even.

225 or 260 hp??? Does it really matter that much? You can't legally use it to the limit anyway. Just enjoy the great ride we all have. There will always be something better and worse than our rides!
