1999 3.2TL - very nice, 169k miles, what's it worth?
Okay, I think I need to sell my '99 TL. I only bought it a few months ago, and it's really a great car, but with baby #2 now on the way I need something a bit bigger. What do you guys think she's worth?
It's red / burgandy on black, the interior shows virtually no wear, the exterior is very nice, a few door dings, but that's really about it. All body panels are original (the VIN sticker is on each). Like I said, I bought this in the summer. It was a one-owner car when I bought it. Per the previous owner, all maintenace was done at a local Acura dealer. He did do the water pump / timing belt service when due. When I bought the car I was going to change the oil, filters, etc. as I'd do with any used car I buy but when I opened the hood, everything looked new, and they were all Honda / Acura parts (air cleaner, oil filter, etc.), which verifys he serviced his car at the dealer. Oh yeah, he did say he had the transmission rebuilt I belive about 10K miles ago or so. This TL runs great!
So, what do you guys think it's worth? I've checked KBB, Edmunds, etc. and it looks like trade-in would be high $4k to low $5k. However, I question a dealer would give me that much due to miles. What do you guys think? I'll probably put it on eBay in a few days...

I wanted to see what a dealer would give me for my 99 TL, it had 156K miles on it when I took it in, they said around $4K on trade in for something else. Mine has the factory kit, type-s wheels, navigation... I was disappointed with the amount. You could probably get more if you sold it yourself. Hope this helps!

SELL IT YOURSELF. Dealers dont give you SHIT for a car. They could care less how clean you've kept it or how much work you've put into it ya know. Just try to sell it privately to a buyer and you can get almost what you would want for it. Thats what i would do. I could never trade my TL into a dealer. For all the money and sweat that has gone into my TL, the dealer would never give me what it really is worth in visual and operational perspective. They all go by a damn Blue book that is just a Generalized scale. Which is bullshit IMO. Sell it privately, oh and Good luck with the sale if u go this route.

Yeah, I'll definately be looking to sell it by owner, but I'm just wondering what the group thought would be a good price for... i.e., if THEY were looking for one, what they would be willing to pay for a car like this. I was thinking $5,995 or best offer. What do you guys think?

depending on condition, I would think it could go from 4500 to maybe 7-8000. There are really alot of things it depends on, like:
Options
Condition
Accidents
Maintenance
cleanliness
Quality

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal then. What was the labor to put that trans in? Mine was actually rebuilt by the Acura dealer about 10k miles ago, per the previous owner.

Pretty straightforward FWD trans swap - with the exception you have to drop the subframe on the TL to get the thing out. I think a weekend on the cold garage floor would probably do it if you have air tools and good jacks.
Sometimes though, despite the know how and ability, it's much easier to let a pro do it.
Well worth the $250 I paid my Honda Certified Mechanic friend to change it out, including new fluid, bolts and disposal of the old unit.

If you can fit two adult bodies in the trunk, two strollers would certainly fit.....
I mean.....so I've heard.

I'm running into the same problem I'm looking to sell mine and I just had the tranny rebuilt but it has a rebuilt title and no one wants to buy mine not even on private sale..... I'm very disappointed I purchased it with a rebuilt title but do enjoy the car. Just to make up for what I have in the transmission and have a little extra to buy something else I'm advertising 5000 obo I know there is NO WAY I'm going to get it but for anyone local they'll talk me down to my reasonable acceptance and we'll both be happy.
