Talking 140 mph

Come home today with 4 people in my car I hit 140 mph. It was insane. I wasnt racing anyone just to see what it had. I hit 110 without a problem but from 110 to 130 it was slow. 130 to 140 was quick then i slowed down cause of traffic. it was nuts. What can i do to make my car faster from 110 to 130. has anyone done that speed or faster.

Mr , Next time get rid of the 3 extra passengers
What our cars need is more torque. My friend has a 98 caddy STS (northstar) I smoke him off the line till i shift into 3rd gear...from there it looks like i slammed my brakes and he hits NOS.... Damn those V8s

Headers! I got them along with exhaust and a drop in filter. 4th and 5th are ODs and really slow on this car. The increased upper end power from the headers speeds things up a bit. With these mods and stock crappy tires, I have hit very low 14s BTW with crappy 60foot times. I'm sure high 13s are there with just a tire change. In other words...the headers do add serious power.

Back in the day I hit 130+ MPH in my 96' 2.5 TL so I would expect the TL/S to go over 140. 4th gear is really crappy on this car and you're right, after 110, the car feels like it's not even accelerating.

For your 2nd question, I haven't done this kind of speed in my TL/S yet, but did do 165+ MPH in my 01' C5 Vette a couple of weeks ago

I agree with the masses... add the headers. While you're at it.. get the intake and the exhaust. Don't even bother with removing the resonator.... it might possibly add an extra HP. If you're going to go through the trouble of removing it... install a CAI and get the 6-8hp gain that goes with it..... good luck!!

Oh yea, I am familiar with that area. I go through there all the time when going to NYC. From Orange to East Orange, there is quite amount of straight freeway road. But the most I ever did was maybe 130mph.

The car is slow at higher speeds not because of low torque. The car has the same 232 p/f between 3500 and 5500 rpm. But to accelerate quickly at higher speeds you need power not torque. And unfortunately this car does not have much power below VTEC level. As you get into VTEC rpms the car changes to a completely different animal. I am not sure headers will help 110-130 acceleration, different gearing would. BTW 140mph with 4 people on board is crazy. It is somewhat OK to risk your own life, but other people lives…

I when I hit 140 I was at 5500 rpms in 4th gear and it was still pulling but I was coming up to cars so I slowed down.

Many ppl who pro race have told me that the stock exhaust system on the TLS is well enough to handle a CAI and header upgrade without having to mod the exhaust?? is this true, any one wiht experiance on this??? im debating if i want to touch the exhaust....

I heard the same thing rysky007. I dont think there is a big difference from out stock exhaust to a aftermarket.

Nope, no big difference with the exhaust. If you're just changing out the exhaust, you may see 1 or 2 HP at the most. If you have headers and an intake, changing out the exhaust will probably give you more. Since you'll be taking in more air with a CAI and/or headers.... why not swap out the mufflers and let it flow out more effeciently? Plus, they look and sound 100x better then stock....

ive read many times ppl tell me that their cars done accelerate as fast as they should from 100 to 120, mine acutally is very slow in gaining speed at low speeds unless im in very high RPM's and Vtec kicks in, but today i did a test taht i did on my old civic and had the car in automatic mode in 4th and just pressed the gas pedal half way down on the HYWY and just let it gain speed on its own, i went from 70 to about 120 in about 4 seconds, keep in mind i was not accelerating just held the gas pedal at the same level and let the car build up, a long time ago a honda engineer told me that honda's engines are designed to have greater accelaration ratios at a constant gas supply compared to other cars, and it proves it self well each time, but when the gas pedal is floored and a huge amount of gas is sent to the pistons it can slow it self down some how, dont make much sence to me but from a phisics stand piont, its true. any thoughts??

You have a really fast car man. From 70 to 120 in 4 seconds that's going. I am not sure Viper can do it. BMW 540 needs about 14 secs to get to 120 from 70.

Yikes, 140-150mph with the TL-S's skinny tires? You guys are braver than me. Need to put some meat on those rims at that kind of speed. Some 255's or some sh*t like that.

I own a '03 CL S and I got my car up to 148 or 150 before it cut out on the highway. It seemed pretty fast so I didn't want to take my eyes off the road. But with four people in the car, I can see why it took you pretty long to get up to 140. My car seemed to stagger between 140-150 mph, with just one person in the car with me.

With regard to the question about the TL-S' top speed, several people here have stated that they have topped out the car between 145 and 155 MPH.
