hey guys....so my 99 has been having some A/C problems for a while now
well, not really PROBLEMS, cause it works fine, but when it's on, every few minutes, very cyclically, it'll kinda "moan"

like it'll make a whishing sound or something, like it's adjusting the temp, then it'll stop and everything's fine

then a minute or 2 later, same thing....it stops when i specifically cut the A/C off, so clearly that's the problem

also, this has happened a few times, but the air it's putting out will be visible, like a faint smoke or something, what the heezee??

any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys...thanks alot

 

On a few occasions on a morning with alot of fog or moisture in the air, for a brief few seconds I've seen the smokelike air come from my vents so that may not necessarily mean a problem and my climate control unit works fine. I am unsure about the whising type noise; when the unit adjusts temperature, of course you'll hear the fan speed up or slow down but you shouldn't really hear anything else. If the noise is made only when the compressor is run, it may be going bad.

 

thanks for the info....i figured the "foggy" air coming out on the few occassions wouldn't be a problem really

in terms of the other issue....it's definitely more than the fan speeding up/down....it sounds like when the A/C is adjusting the temp it's making a wheezing noise

is there any easy way to tell if the compressor is going bad??
