10W-30 Sythetic OK?
I'm about to get the oil changed for the first time (since I've owned it) so I went out and got some oil and a filter. I got 10W-30 Castrol Syntec since I could get a case. Now the manual says 10W-30 is okay, but the oil cap just says 5W-30.
It says 10W is okay if the tempature never goes below 20 degrees, and I live in Houston, so I think I'm good on that one. But am I going to see any difference in performance or fuel economy? In what ways, if any, is the heavier oil going to effect my car, good or bad?
Also, will Honda dealerships allow me to bring my own oil and filter or are Acura dealerships only that nice?
I guess give me a full education on oil weights and viscosities.

i use Mobil1 5W-30 just because its full synthetic and better performance I dont really know if you can tell a whole lot but makes me feel good that im treating the car with the best. Also use K&N Oil Filter the Honda that they use is just garbage i forgot what website it was about the Honda Filter. But as far as taking your own oil to the dealership I have done it but it ends up pretty much being the same amount so I dont either bother I just buy my own oil filter.

I will be getting the Castrol GTX and Honda Oil filter out of the car this weekend and putting in Mobil 1 5w-30 and a K&N Oil Filter. Now I will be on an extended oil change intervals to 7500miles and enjoying the higher quality Mobil 1 oil provides.
There might be some performance decreases but I don't know if you will notice them. I would stick with a 5w-30 synthetic. They are easy to find.

How long have you been on the 3,750 mile change interval? I started the 7.5k interval when I reached 7,500 miles. I have 52k on the odometer now. Once I get to the 60k service, I'm moving on to the 10k interval with an even more expensive 0w30 or even a 0w40 synthetic.
FYI: All Mercedes do a 10k interval straight from the factory using 0w40 synthetic.

you wont notice a performance difference. i change my oil at or around 7-10 now with synthetic. when i drain my oil this next time im going to send it out to be analized to see if its still any good or not. im betting on the good. i have around 8k on the stuff thats in it now and it looks like conventional oil at around 1500-2000 miles

here's an interesting read about why you don't need to use 5W-20...i'm wondering if 0W-30 is the best way to go now.
