153mph and ran into a tree

naah. 153 in 2.73mi and had to stop. could probably push a few more. going over 160 is probable if you have NOS. 150 was just over 5000rpm on 4th (99TL)
but right now i have a big a/f problem and could probably not get far over 120.

governor at 147mph FTL ... technically the TL comes with V-rated tires - 149mp so 147 is safe although going above for a short period should be safe but not worth taking the risk. all this talk is in actual mph and stock tire sizes

So you are saying the TL-P is faster than the TL-S? The TL-S has more power to overcome the drag. Even though it's stupid to go those speeds in any car on the street.

well I dont know if thats true or not but I have gone 120 in my old Tl 02 type s for quite some time. Id say about 25 min. Why would that be the case if ppl in Germany drive like that daily on the autobahn without problem??? idk im intrested as well... hopefully someone more knowledgeable can answer.

Its not really the speed that'll screw up the engine, but the reving. You can cause just as much damage to the engine by keeping a lower speed, and reving to the redline in the lower gears.

I hit 147 twice in my car and slowed down both times, I highly doubt you'll get to 160, it just runs out of juice once you get up there.

I think you meant to say "W" rated right? Because I just went outside to check on my 06 TL/Navi/5AT, it says "W" on it.

2nd gen TL has V-rated tires unless you have chosen to upgrade. 3rd gen is a whole different animal.

Sorry but your cousin is wrong. speed has noting to o with it, if any thing it would be due to the RPM, and you wouldnt have any thing to worry about in the TL. Also if that were true i dont think there would be a autobahn where they cruise at speeds well over 140 for long periods of time

If you are crusing for a long period of time at 6500 rpm I bet you would damage your engine. Just because you are going fast doesn't mean anything if your RPM's are low

That's definitely true.

I've gotten mine up to 135, but that's as fast as I can get it. For some reason it just doesn't go any faster. I have a 99 TL-P, is this cause of drag? Or is there something wrong that I can't get it that fast.

Why would they put a governor on the TL-S and not on the TL-P? They give you a faster car and then make it so it is actually slower in the long run? That just ain't right for them to do that! Although, it is scary as hell driving that fast on a freeway or a highway. I got up to 135 in my '05 TSX, and although it was super smooth, my blood was pumping!

As a type S owner - I feel 'ya. But I'm not planning on going 147 any time soon, so it's really a moot point.

It could be worse. They could have limited it to 100 or 120 like some other vehicles out there.

I took my 89 Legend up to about 120 in Montana right after they got rid of the 55 MPH speed limit. On the Interstate cruising 120 was cake. My passenger was sleeping for the 20-30 minutes on that stretch of highway. Of course, now the limit is 70 or 80, but 120 seemed "safe and prudent" at the time.

If only I had my NSX back then.

I havent' driven the wife's 02 TL-s above 80, but in WA next to sales tax, speeding tickets are the main source of revenue for the state. It is hard to get to the speed limit with all the traffic, though. I need to get out to the eastern part of the state.

lol

but yeah as long as you're within operating range, that is under redline you'll be fine. just dont abuse of it... + i'm positive honda engineers tested the j32 above its redline over and over and screwd us with lower specs for reliability knowing that our engines are hardcore. uuuRaah!

TL-S is governed at 147 and as far as I know there is no one that has been able to get rid of the limiter on these cars. like someone else said the TL-S came with V rated tires which are good until 149 so they limited it at 147. which is fine in my book... a hell of a lot better than my 99 blazer that wont go more than 95-97 I want my TL back

Nearly all bikes sold in the US have about a 10% error in the speedo (on the higher end) from the factory. Maybe so people don't ride as fast? It's really stupid.

went to roughly 130ish no problem. could have gone more but was scared about cops in the area. always have cops around the highways out in the desert now a days. but yeah the speed govener sucks. wish it was higher.

i think the only way to take the limiter off is by having a computer tuner take that out. but then again i dont know any company that makes comps or retune our comps.

130 is pretty scary though. this was at night too.

carefully driving out there guys.

Word is the new TL is going to have that? No one knows any thing about the new TL.

And the M5 speedo goes a little higher than 180. and its governed to 150.

Whoa...I thought we were talking about 2nd gen TL's?

FYI -
My '02 M5 speedo reads up to 185. The new M5 goes up to 200. BOTH U.S. models are governed to 155mph.

Let's keep this thread on track.

I have only gotten my 02 TL-S to about 110mph(I don't trust this car at high speeds), but I have gotten my (chipped) 04 M3 to 165mph.

Here is a pic from my photobucket to prove it.
