Thumbs up 1/4 Mile Track Outing: 2002 TLS vs. Maximas vs. SC Mustang vs. T/A

Well, I finally got a chance to take my 2002 TLS (stock except Icebox) back to the track at Beech Bend, KY. If you guys remember, I ran a 14.71@96.3 MPH on the same track last year. This time I went with a few buddies with Maximas and one with a TransAm. It was kind of hot (80 degrees) but HUMIDITY was 100%! That screwed us all over quite a bit.

The TransAm usually runs consistent 13.7s but the best it managed was a 14.2.

My friend with a 2k2 Maxima SE 6sp w/LSD was there too. He has some mods: BOMZ Front Strut Tower Bar, Progress/Cattman Rear Anti Sway Bar, K/N Panel Filter, Cattman Y-Pipe, Tokico Illumina Adj. Shocks, and Eibach Pro Springs. He took out spare, jack, front and rear seat, and ran on some really nice drag radials running 18psi. He had all the tools and preparations to break into the 13s today but, as far as I know, he ran a 14.66. He's a great driver and knows his car inside and out. He was disappointed but he did beat a TransAm Ws6 on that run by 0.01 seconds. Hell of a great race!

Another friend of mine in a 2001 Maxima SE auto ran a best of 15.9. He ran a 15.7 when he was bone stock last year but now he has mods and he ran a slower time!

And now finally, my runs. Here are the temporary slips. I will try to post the actual slips later sometime.

Run #1
R/T 0.834
60' 2.524
330 6.710
1/8 10.057
MPH 73.77
1000 12.969
1/4 15.420
MPH 92.45
Result: Beat my friends 1999 Maxima SE with Budget Y Pipe, PR CAI(in HAI form), Max Tunning VB w/ Cooler, Tranny Rebuild, Progress RSB. I actually pulled too far ahead and had my transmission in reverse when light turned green! My friend was impressed when at about the 1/8 mile marker I just pulled hard and walked him all the way to the end.

Run #2
R/T 0.745
60' 2.486
330 6.603
1/8 9.920
MPH 74.69
1000 12.799
1/4 15.227
MPH 93.27
Result: Beat an old supercharged Mustang with a bigass hoodscoop. He had fat tires and did burnouts all the way up to the second we raced. Show-off got a great launch and left me in the dust but my top-end helped me make it a race and allowed me to school him easily.

Run #3
R/T 0.065
60' 2.496
330 6.624
1/8 9.959
MPH 73.96
1000 12.867
1/4 15.319
MPH 92.33
Result: Finally getting the hang of timing launches as that juicy R/T indicates. My 60' times didn't improve and probably resulted from running 38psi on all 4 tires (OUCH!). I was going to run with 25psi in the front but totally forgot. I also had some stuff in the trunk and 3 layers of heavy floormats because I like to keep the interior very clean. Should have taken that out. Also, unluckily, I ran on the left lane all 3 times, the lane which the Top Fuel guys and other people with muscle cars and slicks were using to do solo runs and massive burnouts. Considering all this and the fact that it was about 80 degrees temperature and 100% humidity, I was very happy with the times.

I'll be going back soon because I am confident I can run faster than 14.7 now with the Icebox. Even with all the negative factors, I found the trap speed to be quite impressive (92-93mph). The top end was definitely there but I need to work on that 60'. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. BTW, this was my second time ever at the track. It felt good to represent imports and specially Acura. I had some fans cheering for me the 2nd and 3rd times and I flicked the HIDs at them My friends and I had the fastest sedans there no doubt, and probably the fastest imports period. There were about 200 cars total, mostly domestic.

Way to represent!!!

BTW - I thought a perfect R/T was 0.500 (it is at least at our track)? Are you sure you didn't redlight that last one?

Remember that R/T does not affect E/T. You can sit there one minute and go...you will have a one minute R/T and still turn a 15.3 or whatever. Need to get your 60' to 2.2 area. Good luck.

Daam... nice runs... I guess the humidity really does play a major factor in all this. And ferizzo, I sent you a PM but no response about your request for lens.

I have a 2002 TL-S. My best time with AEM CAI, Headers, No cat, Greddy Evo full exhaust, and AEM Pulleys was a 14.5. Outside was about 85deg humidity was about 80percent and i was at a altitude of 4,000. Sea level i'll be doing 13's easy

How does it run without a cat? Did you have to trick the O2 sensor? Is it louder?

It runs excellent and has way more power then with the cat on. You can tell a difference with it on and off. As for the o2 and check engine light HP Racing makes a o2 simulator for the 01&up civic that you can use. My exhaust is louder but the power that it puts out is incredible.

Haha it was still a good race. The Maxima was stripped, modded, and 6 speed though. He did 14.66@94.X while the WS6 did 14.67@101.X. Even though the Max won, the trap speed clearly shows the extra horsies emerging near the end of the run

Also, what is a perfect R/T? 0.5 like someone said or just 0? I'm positive I didn't redlight the last run. Do you guys think I can run faster than 14.7 with 25 psi tire pressure, maybe 80% humidity, and about a 2.1 60" time?
