06-07 accord trans swap

deal with it

Well it only took forever and day but my av6 is installed and running. Between The original damaged av6 and the time for availability I got an av6 for $750 with 39k, the fluid in the trans was still good...I still changed it.
The swap went smooth enough, besides the 2 solenoids that where broken on the av6. Used the ones out the tl and prefect. The new trans shifts smooth...smoother I would say than when the dealer changed out my trans for a brand new one back in 06'.
The power steering is alot harder. At dead stopped its alot like a car with no power steering at all, but easier to turn the wheel than one without, its very noticeable. Under normal driving the difference is not very noticeable. Its more stiff and more responsive, at low speed turns...ie right from a stop sign you kinda have to fight the wheel, and go wide. Other than the power steering the swap is perfect, and I would do it again given the choice.

Sounds like another satisfied AV6 donor replacement for our ailing tranny's !!!
#323
So how important is it to swap the filter assym? I have completed the swap with an 07 AV6 trans but only swapped/replaced the warmer/cooler and put a new AV6 filter in. Has anyone else left the AV6 filter?

How many miles were on the AV6 at the time of installation ?
Were the solenoids checked yet ? Any codes ?

No codes or flashing D5, when I start the car and begin to drive the rpms go way up before shifting into second. There's almost 10,000 miles on this tranny. The car is doing pretty much the same as old tranny but not as bad.
#329
Hey Type S-ing!, was the torque converter also replaced at the time of installing the AV6 ?

I'm in Tampa. I know a place that can source the transmission and install it for 550 with a 6 month warranty. How far away are you?

Wow, $550 for a tranny install is a bargain with a warranty !
The AV6 tranny can be normally bought with low mileage for less than $1000.
Way better option than rebuilding our problematic 2nd Gen "OEM" tranny's !!!

This is the second thread today where people have experienced transmission problems after rebuilding and or swaps where the original torque converter was used. This may be worth noting when addressing problems with our transmissions.

@Memphlow
I live in Central Florida.
Acutech Automotive Inc. Down in West Palm Beach, does the swap.
2006 Accord tranny with 104,000 miles cost $789 or around that can't remember But I would have to trade my transmission with the cash on top for that price.
They also charge about $600 for the swap. and $125 for a new torque converter.

Yeah I've done some looking around they all seem to be in the same price range tho, And these guys have a nice shop and work on a lot of cars. Tranny comes with a 6 month warranty.
#340
Yeah I looked around too and everything else is more expensive you should be fine at that price point with a new converter. Good luck my friend and let everyone know how it turns out in this thread.

Hey everyone! First time poster, long time lurker on this site- specifically this thread in particular. I bought (well, financed at an exorbitant rate because of poor financial decisions in college) my 03 Tl type-s March 2012 with 126,XXX miles. I initially had reservations about buying a nearly 10 year old car with such high miles but in the end I was won over buy the 2nd gens sporty looks, luxury interior and Honda's reputation for longevity. Like with any used car transaction the dealer gave her the old "snake oil spit shine" and I took her home 'as is' without giving her more than a once over inspection. Ideally, I like to get 250,XXX miles outta this car and the 2nd gen DIY walked me through nearly everything I need to get my tl up to snuff including doing my own brakes and rotors, side and front motor mounts, seafoam induction treatment, and tranny fluid draining but I have always known the day would come when my transmission would fail me.
Now that I have the $$$$ to get it swapped I haven't been able to find a shop here in Central Florida (I live next to UCF) or independent mechanic willing to do the job. My car has been parked since November 2013 (That i'm still paying the note on -______-) and I can't wait to get Mobile again! Thank you all for your contributions to this thread and I will update you on my situation as it develops.

Hey Memphlow, can I get the contact info for that shop that does the swaps in Tampa? I've been stone-cold turned down by every shop and import specialist within 60 miles of me. My towing plan will take me up to 100 miles so I can probably pull off Orlando-Tampa. Ideally I'd want to try to negotiate a 50-60 thousand mile AV6 tranny with warranty. Any information you can throw my way is greatly appreciated!

Only cure to that would be to swap into a TL-S P/S System and Rack .

It may be easier to source your own Transmission and take it and the car to him, as I see they don't have any in stock. There is a an AV6 transmission without the TC on Car-parts.Com across the bay in Tampa. I have no idea the mileage but if the price and mileage is right and you can source a new converter for a good price you will be golden. Call him and see what he suggests.

Thank you! But just as I feared, I'm as far east in Orlando as possible and they are as far west as you can go in Florida period! We are separated by 114 Miles but hopefully I can get her on her last legs and make it to the I-4 west bound and get >20 miles before I have to call em up.

Blackout there appears to be a Oydssey Transmission in you neck of the woods that may be worth looking into not sure on the actual mileage. It say 0MI but that may be in reference to the warranty. Still worth looking into:

OK so like others after lurking this thread with that 'funny my shaky trans is going to blow up kinda feeling" my trans couldnt make it up a gimpy hill this morning...
so i tracked down a 2006 honda accord tranny with "60k" on it for 900$
After reading through this whole thread twice maybe three times i have condensed it into a 7 page picture story book with part numbers. to provide to my mechanic who said he would do it for 700$...
i wish i could share it for tips on it but not sure how to upload to a link and dont want to clog up entire page by pasting it here...
But anyways i hope my transmission goes in with no problems and i never have to see this thread again.... lol jk ill keep everyone updated...

Thanks again Memph, I've made contact with Dan but we've been playing phone tag so now its back to the waiting game, I'd like to have all my P's and Q's together before I go in (if he can accommodate me). Did you opt to replace rear main seal, filters and the other bells and whistles or did you just have him do the TC? And if so did you bring him the parts or did he have them on hand or w/e?

Hey everyone, well my transmission went out on my '02 Type S at 96K. I found an 06 Accord tranny for $800 with 43K on it. I found a transmission shop that did the swap for $560 plus the tranny fluid that I had to bring him. I also had him put in new filter and rear main seal which he also did for above price. 500 miles and it's running great. Mechanic said the swap was very easy (well easy as far as switching a transmission goes), I printed the post Stephen00TL put up with the swap info and that was all he needed.
