06-07 accord trans swap
#161
I just angled the engine about an inch down on the tranny side so the tranny can slide out easy.. tranny still shifts perfect since that day I swapped it and I put a thousand miles on it already. Just need to flush the fluid again to be safe than sorry ! Lol

well, i had my swap done this weekend. car seems to drive just fine and shift normal.
he swapped over the range switch, the harness for it and the ps cooler/warmer thing.
i had the transmission out of a 2007 accord, baya-xxxxxxx something on the serial number.
i'll post as i reach some mileage milestones.

Yeah....thanks for checking back with a progress report on the swap.
Any problems or details are very helpful to others considering the Accord donor tranny.

I'm pretty sure my car will be needing a new transmission and I've been eyeing this thread for a while now. My car is at the mechanic now being diagnosed again. I have been getting a bad hesitation while driving around and it seems to go away if you let it get cold. Also, my car sometimes will die at low speed and driving around town, then it won't start for an hour or more. When it is working, you can feel a little shutter as you accelerate. I don't have any CEL's. I have cleaned out the intake manifold/egr and replaced the tranny filter. I recently had the full timing belt job done and replaced everything I could in there. My initial thoughts were that I had a fuel delivery issue, but now I'm leaning to the transmission. I already had a mechanic look it over and he couldn't find anything even after hooking it up and running full diagnostics.

I am about to purchase an Accord Trans. I am sourcing it from out of state and the junk yard has sent me pictures. I noticed the torque converter is rusted. Would it make sense to replace the torque converter or should I just use the one on the accord trans. Picture is attached.

Too many cooks spoil the stew !
Have ya been primarily dealing with just one mechanic for the T-belt work along with the diagnostics ? Make sure that the car's motor is ok .....before replacing the tranny.

Talk about bad luck....first the tranny, now the cat. Let us know what cat converter option you are going with. Good luck.

The mechanic doing the diagnostics is not the same guy who did the T-belt job on my car. I will say that I didn't notice a change in performance from before to after the T-belt job. The car had the hesitation and stalling issues before the T-belt but not as bad as it is now.

As I said in the other thread, my fuel pump is out so says the mechanic. I had mentioned this issue to previous mechanic and he said it might be fuel pump also. Glad it's not tranny for now.

I decided to go with the 05/06 Odyssey Transmission instead. It is all the same steps as the Accord Transmission. Since this thread helped me out with this swap I thought I would share a picture of the Transmission Power Steering Sensor Assembly that needs to be deleted for the 2nd Gen TL to accommodate the Odyssey/Accord Transmissions.

Take both transmissions and put them side by side. ( makes it easier to see what needs to be swapped)
1. Swap the entire cooler/warmer filter assembly on the top
2. Swap the range switch
3. Swap the small 3 and 4 gear pressure switch harness
4. Since you have a tl p you will need to get some hose and tight clamps, I used t clamps. You have to loop the power steering rack which will make it former but I like it better.

would these steps be the same for an 01-cl type s and also does it matter if the transmission came from a sedan? i just picked up an 07 accord v6 (3.0l) auto trans with 25,000km on it for $904.00 taxes included, 3 months warranty. the transmissions should be the same correct?

I will be doing this swap next week and all the used AV6 transmissions that I located at various junkyards in the area either have no harness or the wiring has been cut.
I know that the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switch harness has to be changed over anyway, but can I use the remainder of the TL harness to plug into all the other sensors, etc. on the AV6 transmission?

Understanding that anything can happen, when it comes to these Accord transmissions, is it worth it to pay $300-$400 more to get a low mileage unit (20K miles) versus something like a 40K mile unit? Ideally, I'd like to get another 100K out of this car without touching the transmission again.

As I understand, the oil jet kit stays with the old transmission since there is no reason to swap it over to the AV6 transmission. Is that correct?
Assuming that during removal, the junkyard doesn't damage any of the external trans fluid tubes/hoses on the AV6 transmission, only the filter should be changed in addition to the fluid warmer assembly, right?

Just re-read the thread as my daughter's 00 tlp needs a trans. Great to have the collected knowledge of acurazine when the junkyard checks with the local acura dealer to inform me that the 06/07 accord trans won't work in our cars. Something about the electronic shifting. I got an 07 trans with about 24,000 on it for $1000 from lkq. It would have been $1200, but they can't give me the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty since I'm putting it into a car where it won't work. For a while, I thought they weren't going to sell it to me.

The new trany is in...
The trannsmission shop said the used tranny that has 13k on it is worse than the orginal that only has 74,xxx. I copied the things that need to be chnaged over and they said that they did that. The shop used Acura/Honda tranny fluid.
So I just picked up the car- it almost wont shift into 2nd. 5th gear lights on the instrument cluster is flashing, and the traction control light came on after a hard shift into 2nd. So what I am wondering is did I just waste almost 1500 on a paperweight, or could the tranny shop forgot to transfer over a sensor?
My car is in perfect shape, except for this dam tranny- I am getting so pissed off at this thing.

I remember somebody else had this same problem and it was simply a connector on a harness that wasn't seated properly or needed replacement. It might be in this thread or another. Also, the range switch may be a little off as it has some play and needs to be adjusted. Do a search here and try these simple things first.

Ya it was in this thread and a couple of others. I just want to know what to look for, or if anyone could help narrow down the problem. I do have a whinning sound coming fro mthe power steering anytime i turn the wheel. I am just wondering if the shop didn't transfer anything and just put in the 07 tranny.

If you are wondering if these fellas actually transferred the range switch, warmer & filter housing, and the small wiring harness for 3rd & 4th gear switches.....then I would get this sorted out first. If you don't know what they did, then who knows? Before embarking such a swap you need to find a reliable shop.
If the whinning sound wasn't there with the old tranny then these guys need to sort out what they did....if they still remember.
In case it's a tranny problem, is there any guarantee from the wreckers that the tranny works?

I had a buddy that was going to help me, but kept dragging his feet, and now my warranty from the wrecking yard is no longer valid. The tranny is from a LKQ yard and had a grade of A when it was pulled.

I'll be installing the AV6 transmission into my car in the morning and so far, everything has been going smoothly without any surprises. Is there any harm in transferring over the oil jet kit to the AV6 trans? It doesn't seem like it would hurt anything and I wouldn't have to modify any hoses or tubing.
#197
There should be no need for the oil jet to be transferred. Let us know how the swap goes !

Well, the swap is 100% finished and I am very happy with the results. I ended up reusing the oil jet kit only because I didn't feel like modifying the tubing. While I had easy access to everything, I replaced the rear main seal as well as the output shaft seal on the transmission. I also installed new transmission mounts. As others have said, as long as you transfer over all necessary brackets and wiring from the TL transmission, the swap is very straightforward.

Does anyone happen to know the individual gear ratios and the final drive ratio of the AV6 transmission? I searched all over and couldn't find this information.
I haven't had a chance yet to compare the speedometer and odometer after the swap against another car. Do those remain accurate or are they off by any amount after the swap?

The Accord trans has a little bit same Ratios in 1st 2nd and 3rd.. Seems 4th has a shorter Ratio! Perhaps at last making it useful.. But I havent tested it since my Original trans is still rocking! Kudos for a 1.3K Shaddy Rebuild
