Demand for MDX Luxury SUV and 3.2 TL Sedan Lead Acura Sales
TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Led by the hot-selling MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and strong demand for the 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan and RSX sports coupe, Acura Division posted January sales of 12,136 units, just short of a new January record, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The luxury market appears to be off to a quick start in 2002 and demand for Acura vehicles continues to be strong," said **** Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "We are averaging less than a 20 day supply of Acura vehicles and just can't build some models fast enough." Demand remained strong for the award-winning MDX luxury sport utility vehicle with sales of 3,423 units, breaking the previous January record. Sales of the Acura 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan also continued strong with January sales of 4,447 units. The 2003 3.2 TL goes on sale next week. The RSX sports coupe sustained its fast pace with sales of 2,281 units bringing total sales to 18,682 since its introduction in July 2001. The 3.2 CL luxury sports coupe also posted solid sales with 1,215 units sold in January. The new 2003 model 3.2 CL goes on sale in March. Sales of the newly
redesigned 2002 NSX were up 230 percent over the same period last year.

Greymage,
Another guy from Austin. I have been watching the forum from the sidelines, and wanted to keep my car stock as well. Did you buy the car from McDavid in Austin and how was the pricing for you? They were pretty tight about negotiating with me. So what is your favorite part of owning the car so far?

McDavid Acura
Memphis,
They did not seem that willing to negotiate - it may have been because they knew my old car was dead, so I had to buy a car quickly.
However, once I got internet quotes from some of the other dealers in Texas they became more friendly.
For an ABP non-nav with spoiler, splash guards, tint, and wheel locks I ended up paying $32,900 (driveaway, including all taxes, tags, etc.) It also had that VIN thing on it although I did not ask for it. And they gave me an RSX auto as a loaner for a week until my car was delivered, which was nice.
The lowest quotes I had (for green, otherwise identical) came in two ranges - averaging about $32,700 for one set of dealers and $33,600 for another set. I think the latter were for dealers that did not have that color in stock. I got two bids of $32,600, one in Dallas and one in Houston.
I also got an offer from Mac Churchill Acura in Dallas for $500 under lowest bid, which at the time was $32,700, meaning $32,200, plus the GM (Max Stone) offered to fly me up at his expense. He was not willing to fax a sales agreement though, and got huffy when I wanted to check with other dealers as to whether they would, so I would stay away from them.
If you have not yet bought, I would suggest getting onlne quotes from all the other Acura dealers (suprisingly, many of them actually just emailed back a quote instead of just calling me up), and then use that as your price ceiling.
If you're financing, watch the prices of any options you get (extended warranty, etc.). I got their basic maintenance thingy which covers oil changes and other minor maintenance for five years, and the finance guy told me it was $10 a month, which I thought was just a little overpriced, but it actually was $900, which is $15. I didn't make a fuss about, I just bought it because I felt sorry for the guy (ex-Ranger, cop, came to Austin to work on SWAT team but got into accident and had to leave force). Aside from that, the financing process was pretty good - went really fast, guy didn't try to talk me into buying anything, just explained their offers, and rate was decent (5.99% for 5-year 100% finance).
Let me know if you have any other questions about my experiences with McDavid so far.

Favorite part of owning my ABP so far
It's hard to pick a favorite thing about this car - everything on it is just so far above my dead 12-year old Maxima that nothing really stands out. I'm hoping it'll be the performance, but I'm still in my break-in period so I won't know that for another couple of days. It's easier to pick a least favorite thing - the sound system doesn't seem to fill the car like the system in my old Maxima did when it was new. Of course, that could just be my memory playing tricks on me.
One pleasant surprise was how many people have liked the looks. I thought it was a little on the boring side, especially since my spoiler won't be installed until Monday, but I've gotten lots of compliments on it, and even heard people I didn't know saying how pretty it was.

:wow: :wow: :wow:
YES!!
Hopefully it won't be uglified.. but it sure seems that they probably won't have very many changes to it at all..
Another step close to a newly redesigned TL..
If they release this with hardly any changes, it is likely they will come out with the next years model sooner too..
Do you remember 2001 models??
It goes on sale next week, so probably get to order it.. but who knows whey the car will actually be in stock at the Dealerships..
Hopefully they have fixed those damn Tranny problems!!

The article says:
This is the 2003CL, not the 2003 TL...which no one has seen yet..
The new CL is the same, just got rid of the fogs..and added some black to the lights. Same car though. I think the old ones look better personally.
The new 2003 model 3.2 CL goes on sale in March

i know you guys are talking about the 2003 TL, but wanted to mention march motortrend says next gen TL will be 2004, released fall of 2003 with hp increase, and "euro styling" - whatever thats supposed to mean
Why is Honda selling the 2003 model TL so early? Under normal circumstances it should be sold towards the end of this year.
This really screws over those people that just about 2002 models, because eventhough there is not much difference between the 2, the 2002 is alread considered last year's car.
This does not sound good for the immediate value of the 2002.
Bizarre.

I just pruchased a TL-S w/Navi, OEM Kit & spoiler, awaiting delivery this week. I bugged 4 dealers regarding the upcoming 03 changes. I've heard them all say that OnStar will be available with the Navigation system option. One dealers stated that the fog lights will not be standard; however, another one says that is ridiculous. Another said that the wheels will be slightly different. All of them did say the base would be $400-$1000 more for the '03.
The 03s are to come out for sure in mid to late february.

yeah, I called one of the dealerships yesterday and they told me they knew NOTHING about the new 03 TL til it gets to the showroom. They didn't understand why this came about all of a sudden and so secretive either. It's not scheduled to arrive until another 2-3 weeks is that they told me.
Then I called my dealer, and he basically said that he knew of no visible changes to the 03 TL except that the base price would be a bit more (he thinks an extra $500 cdn). He says (I'm not sure if it's his take on the situation or that someone else told him) that Acura wants to maintain its prices as close to the MSRP as possible and not leave the 03 TL til fall of this year, at which point the 02 TL will have been out for around 20 months. Since the car would have been out for 20 months, customers expect to make a deal on the car and grab it for around 6-8% off the MSRP. He claims of the units sold (02TLs) done at his dealership, usually averaged only around only 2% off MSRP. He also said that since most competition has raised their prices (BMW 3 series, Lexus ES300, etc), then they would take advantage of that and raise their prices too. I'm not sure if he's bs-ing me or not but it sounds reasonable.
