03 Acura TL... were there any issues?

A friend is looking at a 03 TL 3.2 and asked if there were any issues since I had a 01 CL-S. Please advise if she should go for it or run like the wind.

60k miles for $10,900

are you saying run like the wind because of the price? I am more interested in issues related to that car. Mainly tranny.

my 01 CLS tranny tanked at 44k and in the end, I got rid of it at 80k.

mostly, yes.. the price is extremely high.

and if he is seriously looking into a TL, just be forewarned of the transmission issues.

these cars are basically all out of warranty as well.

if your looking to spending around 10k.. the 03 TL should def. not be on the top of the list

sad too because if it weren't for the transmission problems these cars would be worth more than 11k, not to mention better than other competitors in the same class (es300, I30/35, 325i, c230/240). i mean cmon, even maximas in the same year are going for almost the same amount...thanks honda.

there's not that many good options for a nice car for 10k unfortunately. but starting at 15k there's a lot more options such as 3g tl, tsx, g35, etc.

anyone looking at an 03 should call acura with the VIN and ask about the recalls and extended warranties to see if trans is covered, the recall for timing belt issue and a few others
1-800-382-2238x5

you register as a new owner at the same place

this is just me. Even if it was, you are only covered for so long and if you are unlucky with the tranny, that is a $3.5k fix.

As a current owner, this pisses me off. Due to the defective engineering, the car is eliminated from the list of many potential buyers, thus negatively affecting the resale value and saleability. It also pisses me off because I've had to deal with the transmission failure once before. The replacement is doing pretty well, but I have to be realistic in thinking that it's just a matter of time.

Thanks a lot, Acura. Just as these cars are eliminated from buyers' lists, the Acura brand is eliminated from mine. I won't be back in your showroom any time soon.

i wouldnt buy a new acura simply b/c they are ugly..

now honda, i can see myself in there very soon purchasing a new vehicle... as far as i can tell, they got rid of any major Recall type of issues. and the honda line nice. too bad the morons stopped making s2k's though

I hear your pain. I traded out of my 01 CL-S with 80k on it as I did not want to have an issue past 100k with the tranny. It was a great friggin car except for the tranny. What scared me off too was the tranny going at 44k and my Service Mngr pretending to be shocked that the tranny went on me.
