03 Accord V6 vs 02 Acura TL-S

Last night I was making a trip to Krispy Kreme and I see a set of HID's behind me. This guy in a 02 TL-S is catching up to me very fast to catch this red light. He hits the far left lane and I hit the middle lane. The guy in the back seat rolls down his window and says lets go! He had 4 people in the car and I just had 2. The light turns green and we take off. I literaly tore this guy up off the line by a good 1.5 cars until 40mph. Through second I pulled another 1.5 cars more and through 3rd I pulled another car on him. We stopped at about 85mph. I have Injen CAI and 18's. He was stock.

Are you saying you had the Accord with the CAI and embarrassed the TLS?

I've seen the new Accord V6 pull figures of a 14.5 quarter, while our TLs is around 15.0. Indeed, the new accord is faster.

Hmm, while I have not "floored" it, my TLS seems to be lighter on its feet than my 03 EX-V6 Navi.

MY Accord is 100%, no mods.

We are all entitled to an opinion.

I believe those were car & driver times... They usually test them quite thoroughly before releasing their "opinion".

Not saying that your wrong, but they do have 50 years more experience and 1 million subscriptions backing them up

He probably a bad racer. The way to tell is that he has four people in his car. Most racers know not to race when he has more than 1 passenger.
Its hard for me to believe an 02 Tl-S losing by 1.5 car length to the 03 accord.

Consider that in a quarter.. a .1 .2 difference in a time slip is about a car lenght

Thanks for the support and lack or sarcasm in your response.

Either way, aside from the dual zone climate control and the far and away better Navi, I'll stick with the TLS.

Carrying an extra 300lbs of passengers (more if they were chubs) will slow you down. It's like losing 30hp. It would've been close with all equal.

satinsilver av6, thanks for the input. good to hear various stories. however everyone here is correct about the weight issue. also, you had intake which brings you even closer to the 260. were you running 91 octane fuel? that would make you yet even closer to the tls power. weight is a definate reason for slow times.

the intake isnt giving 20HP... and id guess to say it wud only add at most 10HP (i know theres some budging on this but with the TL-P and the TL-S, theres a 6-7HP gap between the dyno's with AEM CAI).

but if u did manage it, good going... but yeah, weight definitely an issue here

I've spanked a new Accord V6 with the Injen c/a/i who ahd 18's (as do I) before I made my mods. Spanked it. The TL-S must have been toting the Fat Boys and had one too many 40 oz's...

The new accord is putting down the same, if not more HP at the wheel.... so why would it be such a surprise that it can beat us stock for stock?

Once the new TL comes out, we'll be back ahead.... there's almost always some overlap between divisions with new models like this.

It is all good with me...but anyone who has doubts...Go find out...I've never raced the new Accord for the fact that I know they actually have a chance now...But no need for smack talking here..."Don't Sing it, Bring it!" hahahhaha

I had 3 big boys in my TL-S today, and it felt like my 98Accord V6. When I took off the car was so damn sluggish off the line, but got a decent rush after 5K RPM. It didn't feel any faster than my 200hp V6.

According to what I hear is, that the new accord V6 Manual (only) can beat us in the 1/4 mile, but if it isnt a manual, we are about dead even. The Auto runs close to 15.0 seconds on the quarter of a mile, which is about the same as our TL-S. Just think of it as this way...its LIKE a TL/CL type S auto is about the same as an Accordv6 Auto, and a CL type S manual and an accord manual v6 are yes the same. We do about the same output in the quarter of a mile. But, just as JuniorBean said, just wait till the new TL comes out. We will be back on top again.

I am running 91 Octane and Injen CAI. The intake gives 15whp and 11wtq according to Injens Dyno. So I should be pushing about 265HP to the crank and about 208whp according to Injen. The accord is also lighter by a 200-300 lbs.

The only way a TL-S loses to a new Accord V6 is if its a 6-speed coupe. A TL-S should NOT loose to an 03 Accord v6 Auto with equal drivers.

The driver of the TLS was dumb neways to initiate the race, prob he was thinkin that "yah... I drive a TL-s, teach the Accord a few things" and therefore underestimating... but neways I still think stock vs stock we have the upperhand~ plus TL-S still looks alot better than an OVERSIZED Civic~ juss my $0.02

better driver? in automatic tranny cars? just push the go pedal. There are factors such as gearing, wind resistance, total weight (car weight plus passenger weight and how much fuel is in the gas tank), wheel size (width, weight and wheel diameter)

I'd say the accord has enough power to be close to a TLS stock for stock...now factor in everything else and it could go either way.

You can think you have the upper hand if you want to, but when it really comes down to it, my "so called" over sized civic could whoop your ass down the 1/4 mile strip(Top End Too)! To me the Accord Coupe looks better than your TL-S but the Accord Sedan is a different story!

Hey guys ive driven a few new 2003 accords at work we have to gas them up after we have done a pdi ,and let me tell you these cars pull hard considering they only have about 3kms on them. These v6 accords are only going to pull harder when they break in.Honda did a good job with these family sedans.

well i think the new accord can whoop on the altimas... from what C&D just put out the altima is 5.95 seconds (with the 5HP boost to 245) and the accord is preliminary around 6.0seconds without C&D pushing it more. i say they can squeeze a low 14 out of that car and 5.85seconds... go vtec

The 2003 Accord V6 only weighs like 200lbs less than the TL Type-S. The TL Type-S has 20 more HP and 20 more lbs of torque than the '03 Accord V6. I'm pretty sure a TL Type-S can outrun the '03 Accord V6 Auto both in 0-60mph and in the quarter mile. Twenty more ponies is better than 200lbs less.

But then again, if the driver of a '03 Accord V6 used premium fuel, I'm guessing the HP will be around 245-HP. The 10-HP gain from switching from regular to premium gas seems unrealistic.

2003 Accord V6 are rated at 240 HP using premium fuel.
So don't expect any HP boost for using premium fuel again.
Expect HP loss when using regular fuel.

Ok, guys... read his post again... TLS has 4 people in there, and Accord has 2... and if TLS is stock, and 03V6 has CAI.... I dont see why Accord cant pull away... stock Vs stock, Accord wont be way behind, maybe a bit.... but we are talking about TLS with 4 people in there... wats soo suprise??? And Accord guys, b4 yall think yall 03V6 is SUPER fast, wait till you try them on freeway, the passing power, thats where TypeS really shines....

Who are you? your boasting a bit much on an ACURA TL forum. Don't you get it in just a few months from now something with 4 doors with an ACURA badge & generic lettering that reads TL is going to open up a big can of whoop A on you. Its going to have you for a snack & you won't forget it for a long time. I like the ACCORD myself coupe & sedan but not all of us got ACURA TLs just for HP. I have been a long time owner of HONDA automobiles 23yrs to be exact. I have had new ACCORDs in the past but wanted to step-up to ACURA. Like said we are all in the same family enjoy your car. But you can be sure ACURA will have a sedan that will eat you alive & its comming soon.

I am boasting about my victory because I am happy that I beat a car that is supposed to be better than mine. I was not talking about the new TL since that is not the car I beat(It also does not exist yet). I do expect the new acura to beat me since it will have more power. Until then you will have to live with me giving your TL-S a bashing!
