I don't think the TL needed them, but that's a personal opinion.

My 02 TL-P is plenty powerful. Gets the best of my 05 Accord V6 coupe (auto) every time. That's enough for me.

Well once you are past your milage, you are in an optimum position to swap a type-s motor into your tl-p.. With the car ( an 02 TL) being identical to the 02type-s you would have very minor modifications to do if you decided to do the swap. Putting a type-s engine in a 99TL, for example, would be much harder due to the tranny being different and a ton of other minor but significant differences.

Oh, just to share my situation.. I loved my 99TL and I knew I wanted to drive this acura for a long time... The only regret I had was I wasn't able to afford the type-s when I bought my car origionally (years ago) and the car I got wasn't in Black . In fact I was searching for a black 00TL, I wanted the 5spd.. I ended up getting a 99TL-P Heather Mist Metallic... I still loved it ...But with the car approaching 150k km (90k miles) and with the mind-set I would want to drive this car for years I decided to "bite the bullet" and trade in my 99TL-P with 149k km in for my current 02TL-S Nighthawk Black Pearl with 84k km. I did spend a little money, but it was far worth it, espically in the long run... All of my modifications have/will be moved over to the TL-s and I've got a better starting point for my engine mods..

Grab the type-s if you are debating it, you should be able to strike up a decent deal if you were swapping the car just for the type-s, probably just a few bucks a month if you are paying in installments.
