02 TLS smokes an 06 AT TL
I've been pressing my buddy for months now to race against his 06 WDP AT (Major sharp looking ride). He finally agreed 2 nights ago and lone and behold I roasted him 3 times. We switched cars for the 3rd race and he (w/ my car) still beat me. I beat him about 1.5- 2 car lenghts for the 1st 2 and then the last one, where he was driving my car, he beat me by about a car's length.
Both cars are stock. I was extremely confused after I one the first time. So I told him we have to race again as I didn't think I'd blow him out by that much. Don't have any mods, and I was looking to see if any hidden mods were in the engine bay, from the previous owner, and nothing.
I always knew my TL drove very strong ever since I raced my buddies GS400. I actually beat him like up to 60. Then after that he went bye bye. I also drove a buddy of mines 03 TLS and noticed mine felt much stronger.
I know the 06 AT TL ranked higher as far as 0-60 but that was NOT the case here. He has like 8K on his car and I have 86K on mine. At the end of the race, he wanted to trade his car back in... It was sooooo funny!!!!

as far as hondas go his motor isnt even broken in yet. also how does he drive? is he aggressive? as he has a drive by wire setup and it takes time to relearn to beating on it like a race

i have driven both an 03 tl-s and a 05 TL AT and the TLS felt stronger, not much. I know the throttle-by-wire takes away from the throttle feel, but I honestly think the tl-s is a little quicker.

02 WDP type-S Navi
Just returned my Loaner 06 TL...the feel of the pedal is a lot different, the TL-S pedal is more sensitive, while the 06 feels like the pedal from a corolla you don't feel any pressure on the pedal til you hit about half way point. The 06 is a little faster mostly I think because its in better shape than my 02 TL-S but you really gotta floor it to feel the power more than the TL-S....The doors on the 06 feel like they weigh a ton, hafta drop kick the door for it to open same goes with the trunk lid. 11:0 Compression ratio, MFI, 258 hp, 233@5000RPM vs. 10.5:1 Compression ratio, PFI, 260hp, 232 @ 3500RPM .......

Flyin' and Drivin'
I do have comparison on mine, from my 99, and even though I can tell my 02 pulls harder from the start than my 99 did, I think the rest of the performance sucks. Perhaps its the configuration of the transmission, I dont know. I have had a TLS loaner, and I remember it being a bit faster, and more agile on corners. My 02 has 70K on it now, and I'm guessing I need to replace the shocks on it. Who the hell knows, I prolly will call the dealer and see if there is an 02 I can borrow for a few minutes.

i have a 03 TL-S and my buddy has a NBP 04 TL A-Spec with an injen CAI and he pulled about a car length on me from the get go. unless an intake does that much, idk how u smoked a new TL. the A-Spec package is only visual and suspension so that didnt make a huge difference

I do agree that you have to push the 3G to higher revs for it to really start to move, compared to the TL-S (I used to own an '03 TL-S). However, I actually prefer the gradual "taking off" feel that I experience in the 3G . The VTEC engagement seems to be more pronounced than that in the TL-S.

That just kind of sucks for him. Didn't think Acura would advertise 0-60 figures that way. I guess they forgot to mention that you have to wind up your car for a few hundred miles so you could "teach" it to go that fast.

ive race an 04 tl and 06 tl ATs in my 03 TL-s. Pulled a car length to 70. My car is stock and so was theres. The 2G should be faster since it has a little more power and i think less weigtht.

'04 TL weight - 3575 lbs.

I wonder which car is more aerodynamic? They did race up to 125 mph...

I've also had a similar racing experience. 02 TL-S (mine) v. 04 auto TL. Both of us had one other person in the car, went from 0-130. I pulled a half car length on him by the end of it. My car is stock besides a K&N, I believe his was too.
I've also pulled on a V8 camaro pretty hard from 0-60 (funny story, camaro, corvette racing and I jumped in. Corvette expectedly smoked us both very badly). Camaro took me after that...
Another time I raced a BMW 330i manual and pulled at least a car length on him as well at about 85 mph.
My car has 75K on it and still feels very healthy.
It is possible- I don't know how it happens, it just does.

What happens when you floor it from a standing start? I can spin the wheels pretty easily.

Let me just say that the new TL looks great and I wish I have SOME of the new features from it but that's the extend of it. My '03 TLS was at the dealer some time ago and I was able to get an '06 TL for a week. The car is a little more quiet than mine and like I said, I wish I have the programmable interior lighting, bi-xenon headlights (maybe) I think other than looking a cool purple at night, mine are brighter, and YES, the bluetooth integration.
With all that said, I took the car a couple of times to 100mph and it took a lot longer than in mine. It feels like the specs said, torquier than mine at low rpm but still slow. Now all this is stock, I know of at least one member with a 3rd gen with SS and headers, so that's a different ball game.
This is funny because normally we don't race each other (at least I don't) but right after that a few days later I encounter what appears to be an '06 white TL and he was chasing me thru traffic until we found a stretch that opened with no traffic, I knew his intentions so (and he was right on my tail) we opened up on that stretch......sorry fellows but I started pulling on him faster that I thought I was going to, after about 120 I decided he had enough and I started slowing down. he appoached me slowly and moved ahead with respect, I think he understood he had nothing for me.
Like I said, '06 TL is a great looking car, but I'm still waiting for Acura to make it AWD and with 300hp, until then, I am more than happy with mine.

It would seem that the TL-S's out there vary more between each other that the '06s; i.e. there are many factory freaks. I will try to get to race my friend with an '06 in a month, and see which is faster then.
