If its still on original tranny, chances are like 90% it will die within a year.

I will give you summary, because it seems that what you are looking for, but I recommend going through search and reading about it for more details. In a nut shell, pretty much any 00-03 TL/CL tranny can fail, even replacement one, there is no real solution. However, replacements installed after 2005 Feb (Acura dealer) have some design improvements and upgrades to internal materials, these transmissions are believed to be more reliable than original ones, but there are cases when they also fail because its believed that fundamental design problem is not completely resolved. In summary, post 2005 transmissions that are well maintained with 15-30K fluid changes should last 100K+ miles, but not guaranteed. If tranny was replaced before 2005, its a high risk you are taking. Bank 3-4K cash to replace it.

there is NO fix possible for the trans- per the head tech at local dealer who rebuilds them at home for friends--and has been working on a solution for 10 years

not enough room for more clutch plates, and not enough cooling oil flow to 2nd and 3rd gear--the ones used most often in a hard, heat generating way

the post 05 units have a new case design, but still faces same problems
those also have the oil jet moved inside the case

What about replacing the trans with the 08 Odyssey or TL transmissions? I heard a few people did them here on this forum and it worked out i believe. Only a small amount of modification was involved.

or buy a honda and not worry about the trans blowing up!!

gen2 TLs are risky buy at this point,,unless you can purchase a serious trans warranty with it!

thats the big visual differance,,oil jet kit moved inside trans case on the new design in 2005

blue paint on bolt heads on trans, in numerous locations = warranty unit from acura

go to an acura dealer with the cars VIN, ask service dept to search for trans replacement history
they seem to have a better database than the 800 phone for that,,
800 can say if recall to install jet kit was done, but you can see that!
