'02 Acura TL-S vs. '03 Nissan Maxima SE

Both stock w/ 20,000 miles on it. Who would win...

0-60mph
0-100mph

1/4 miles

My friend has a Maxima and his car seems to be real quick. I know the VTEC has a late delivery but who would take the prize? Anyone?

Drivers race will always be(dont let these Maxima or TLS guys that say they killed one sway ya want happen stock for stock), lots of topics on this in the past. They have better low/mid range you high end, they get out of the hole faster, you do slightly better up top.

As long as you drive the TL properly, launch the car well without spinning the tires to much, and shift at the right points, I think that the TL would pull ahead slightly. Don't get me wrong, the maxima is a fast car, and there's no way you would blow him out of the water. If you win, it will be by no more than 0.5-1 car length.

Good luck, and let us know the outcome.

Is it stick or auto. If its stick he will beat you off the line and all the way thru but if its auto you should have no problem taking him... A stick Max is fast....

Both mid to high 14's stock, go to Maxima.org an they will say the same thing they beat the TLS. Neither is head and shoulders above the other like Sc354 said the win will b eso marginal by either car at speed its rediculous. I'll defend the Max since I had both and ran them side by side with my brother multiple times.

My bro has a 6spd Maxima SE and that thing pulls REALLY hard. Its a lot faster than our TL-S stock. With my intake and headers I think I'm about as fast as him although we haven't actually raced..

A stock TL-S versus a stock AUTO Maxima is pretty much a dead even race. Any little factors could put one ahead of the other ... In my experience the auto Maxima does have the edge down low due to the greater torque, but the tall gearing on the Maxima 4spd auto kills it as you start to accelerate.

In the end, its really a driver's race ... Its anyone's guess who would win.

My friend has an 02 Max SE auto and we mess around all the time. The key is shutting VSA off and shifting at 7000 RPM's in every gear. Out of the hole we're close till 40 mph, but off the shift you'll start pulling on him. Our 3rd gear is especially stronger than the maxima. The 4 speed auto really hurts the maxima.

You'll take him by 2 or so car length to 100 if you can drive your TL-S properly.

If the Maxima is a stick then he'll most likely take you but if he's an Auto, then you shouldn't have a problem. I have beaten numerous Auto. Maxima's while losing to almost all stick Maxima's.

Yeah, I have learned my lesson w/Maximas..don't race them unless they're autos. Stick Maximas are nothing to be fucked with..they move *very* quick for a sedan.

I have had extensive runs in my 2002 TLS vs a 2003 Maxima SE my friend had. I have about 2 gigs of videos. Basically, he gets me by 1/2 car until we both hit 45mph. By 60 mph we are even, and by 80 I've got a half car. Not much difference all the way to 120mph, when I'm 1 car ahead. My friend's Maxima tends to do better at lower RPMS and it feels like its running out of juice / breath at higher RPMs. So after I shift to 4th at 118mph, he would probably gain marginally because of his 4 speed. But the auto Maximas are electronically limited to 130-135 mph so they can't really catch up to us. By the time they reach 130/135mph and stall, the TLS would blow past all the way to 147/149mph. These are the facts after numerous runs and lots of discussions on the ORG and A-TL.com over the last couple of years.

Unfortunately I had to find that out the hard way last year. I had a stock 2003 Acura TLS with only 4.000 miles on it and my buddy a 2003 Nissan Maxima Se with about 40.000 miles (only muffler mod), both automatic cars. So we decided to go to the track to find that out. First race I completelly beat him doing a 15.103 1/4 mile and he did a 17.640. Thought I was the man. The following 9 races I kept doing 15.016 or so and he didn't even once went over 15 secs. His best time was 14.932. A little after this, he went back to the track and I never won again, and he even lowered his time, he did 14.896. But that wasn't enough for him, he installed a nitro kit and is doing 13.8s now. Me, after putting 20.000 miles on the car decided go to back to see if the car improved. It did, My best time last week was 14.920.
So the answer to you question is the 03 maxima is indeed faster then our tls, but on all races I had, it felt like my car was gaining on him on 3rd gear, so if instead of a 1/4 mile if it was 1/2 mile I believe I would have caught him.

Nope, the '02-03 Maximas that had 255hp / 246 ft-lbs only came in a 4spd auto.

The new 2004 Maxima has a 5spd automatic, but its less of a "sports" sedan than the previous generation I think.
