Cool 0-60

Just bought a 2002 TL not S type. What is the real deal with the 0-60 time on this car.
I here its low 8's to low 7's. Does anyone know?

Cool

If the 2002's performance is in line with 2001 TL, if not faster, a TL-P should be able to do 0-60 in around 7.2 - 7.5 sec.

What does the P stand for, is it a Canadian thing? Does that compare to the US TL, not type-s?

According to the manual, "P" stands for "Premium" model (vs. Type S).

Stock TL should make it in 7.2-7.7 sec.

Motor Trend shows TL-S 0-60 as 6.28. 2001 TL did it in 6.7. :-)

I'd take those Motortrend Stats w/ a grain of salt --> 6.28 seconds on a TL-S? None of you will ever achieve that in a stock TL-S. You'll be very lucky to see a 6.5 second run. And the only way you'll see a 6.5 second run is gunna be in 35F weather w/ the Michelins warmed up after about one hour of driving aggressively. Motortrend adjusts times to a std. temp and humidity -- I gotta believe this is a simple mathematical equation, I think they also take elevation into account. Further, they brake-torque the car like hell --they'd have to in order to produce results CLOSE to 6.28 seconds.

There is NO way the 6.7 time is accurate either --> Go buy a TL-P, take it to the track after about 5000 miles of break-in --> and test it out .. I guarantee you won't break 7.0 seconds. Someone prove me wrong.

MT times are always low. They are consistent though. They 0-60 time for the TL-s and CL-s are pretty much the same, which is believable. If you compare thier times for car A vs. car B, they should be directly related to what you'd find at the drag strip. For example, the 1/4 mile time for a Type-S is 14.7 and a GS300 (auto) is 15.7. If you raced a GS300 in the 1/4 mile, you should beat it by about a second.

TLGuy,

I'm curious as to why you didn't opt for the Type S?

The "Premium" is the non Type-S model, just the regular 2002 TL.....
