**Update** 42k Miles Later

2003 Acura TL Type S to 06/07 Accord Transmission Swap

I know many people get excited about their conversion/swap forthe transmissions in the car, and neglect to update the online community of theoutcome. The conversion for my 2003 Acura TL-S was completed at the end ofMarch 2012 and 42k+ Miles and almost 21 months into driving the car, the trannyshifts, runs, and drives great. The tranny that was used was from a 2006/2007Honda Accord V6 Coupe. The tranny had 29k and cost $975 and $1000 to install. The tranny shifts at all of the correct shifting points. The tranny down shiftswhen slowing down properly. The overdrive is one of the best features about thecar, you slam on the gas pedal and the speedometer jumps about 20mph in liketwo seconds. There has been no issueswith the Transmission and I live in Bethlehem, PA with some hilly areas and thecold of the Northeast.

Good to hear the trans is still going strong.

Also just to help clear a few things up, overdrive isnt something special in a trans. All overdrive was was a term used when trans gained an additional gear back in the day going from 3 speeds to 4. It was just a taller gear meant for hwy to help achieve better gas mileage. Now cars have 5-6-7-7-8-9-10 speed trans and the term OD really isnt used anymore. Overdrive did/does nothing for helping to accelerate or anything.

Yeah, everybody should buy an AV6 tranny and let it sit it your garage as Skirmich has successfully put the bad tranny gremlins to rest this way.

No installation necessary, just buy it as a spare and all will be well !!!

Hey Homeskillet43.....thanks for the follow-up at 21 months and 42k of driving pleasure experienced by your AV6 replacement donor tranny !!!

Keep hittin' that OD to give it the true test of endurance. Well worth the $2000, huh ?

In addition, our TL`s have two gas saving gears (aka overdrive) the 4th and 5th gears. When your jumping on the gas it could be in 3rd gear which will taking you very quickly to the gas saving gears.

I swear I can testify using Sport Shift 24/7 don't do harm to the trans while being heavy foot on traffic at all 100K Miles can tell you.... Trans shifts like wonders and I even race between stop lights with a ghost.. If only first didn't AUTO switch to 2nd the car would be so much fun... at least 2nd become quite happy after 3K RPM..

It was very much worth the price. I have never been a Honda fan, but with this car, it has changed my mind. However, I do not drive this car often, this is my wife's car. I am a Lincoln Town Car man. I love to ride big and airy.

Thanks for the update. Where did you have the trans installed? Just curious as I don't live too far from you (central NJ) and just in case I need their services sometime in the future.
BTW, I recently owned a 98 Lincoln Continental for a little time. It came about to me in a strange way thru a family friend but I really liked that car. The 4.6l double overhead cam V8 got great gas mileage on the hwy for a big car and it really had some get up and go

Thanks for the update HomeSkillet. If my fourth tranny ever goes out, I'll go either the route of a 6-speed swap (if I can find a CL-S6 tranny) or the AV6 swap.
