$5 Sirius mount, how to run antenna wire?
Hi Guys,
A few months ago I installed a Sirius StarMate Replay ST2. I didn't want this hanging from my windshield, so I did this....for under $5 bucks
http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffny61/SiriusMount.JPG
....if you do this though be careful, until I got used to it there, I was finding myself looking at the radios display for channel and song info a lot, and it's easy to not watch where you are going on the road. Also, it is probably a good idea to scuff up the plexigass where the velcro sticks on. I found above 85 degrees the glue softens, and with the plexiglass so smooth they move around.
BUT I need to bury the antenna wire that runs to the trunk (I have the magnetic mount anntena on my trunk). Anyone done this? I can't seem to find a way to get the wire from behind the seat to the right-rear door jam (I was going to run the wire under that then under the front passenger seat and up to the radio)

just pull up on the plastic jamb cofer. its just cliped on. You can run the wire under every thing. This car is very easy to run wires around on the inside

Yea, I have had the door jamb covers off before, they just pop off, but I don't see an easy way to get the wire to the right-rear door jamb from the trunk...short of unbolting the rear seat...but there must be a way...

Unbolting the rear seat is very easy and takes all of 2 min do do. just 1 10 mm bolt by one of the seat belt buckles (dont remember which one) then just grab each corner and yank up

New ride...Acura MDX 2013
I put mine up here
fished the antenna wire through the headliner, down the pillar, under the sills, took the back seat out (very easy as fsttyms said) went under the bottom and up through the trunk
and ends up here
all in all probably took me about 2 hours including mounting ( and hard-wiring) the radio in the sunglasses holder

I took out my backseat, was very easy, ran the antenna wire through the drivers side trim above the doors up to the front. The only thing I need to do now is to hard wire the power in so you don't see the power cable going to the cigarette lighter.

here's mine installed with the velcro that comes with the kit. I prefer it here as I can see it while I'm driving and the $5 deal looks like a piece of crap in my opinion.

mezzerTL-S: nice install, I will have to consider this interesting location....hummm?
docrob: interesting spot, I'll have to see how mine would fit there with the Navi

Did you ever think some of us might be going for the "piece of crap" look?? But thanks for the nice review.

docrob, does your radio cover your Hazard lights button? With the Navi in my car I don't think I can put it where you put yours...and if I could it looks like I would be un able to see the display because it'd be behind the wheel and wiper control arm. I actually like where I have mine, the display is easy to read and I can easily change stations with my resting on the center consol. Just wish I could hide the wires better.

It doesn't cover the hazards button, it's still accessible, just can't see it from the pic. For me, I can see the screen fine where it's at, it's viewable through the steering wheel.

Got the antenna wire buried. My bolts were 10mm. For anyone else wanting to take the rear seat (bottom) out, yes, there is only one bolt to take out. The black one just to the right of the pull down arm rest (face the back of the car / driver side). I took both out before getting the seat out realizing just the one needs to come out. Once the bolt is out lift up the front of the seat about 1/3rd and 2/3rd across the front....there are inserts on the seat that you must lift up to remove the seat. Then you can use your fingers to fish the wire down and to one of the door jambs, that also "pop off" (I used the passenger side (right) door jamb). I took pics...will try and post them...

Here are some pics of my '99 TL seat removed for any one interested in getting in there to run a Sirius antenna wire to the trunk. Thought I got a pic of the two slots the front of the back seat sets in but didn't...oh well....

I did the same thing by mounting my Sirius in the sunglass holder. I went a step further and cut out the sunglass holder lip. The install is super clean. You can see it in the phot gallery under 2002 TL-S with TSX Wheels.
I have seen the antenna mounted in the front on the cowl between the two wiper arms. The cowl is black so you can hardly see it. I was going to put mine there but I took it one step further. I gutted a 2006 Accord XM roof antenna and fitted my Sirius unit inside it. I then drilled the proper holes and mounted the bubble antenna on my roof. It not only works great but it looks way hot. You can see a picture of that as well in the above listed photo gallery.

I had our body shop shoot it WDP for me on the side. My guess is that a shop will not charge to much to paint one up. You do have to remove all the XM guts which is easy. Then you have to grind the base nubs flat to you Sirius antenna will sit flat. The next step is to drill a hole to run the antenna wire through. The hardest part is droppig the headliner, finding the center of the roof and drilling a mount hole. It's important that you do not go to far back. You have a small area to work with because of the sunroof. Overall it was very easy and the reception is perfect.
PS - It's very important that you order the proper nut that goes on the antenna mounting stud. There is something special about the way it locks. The seal on my antenna is perfect as well. Not one drop of water period. It works like it would if it came from the factory.
