Angry A$$HOLE/MORON Cop scratched up my TL tonight!

I got pulled over earlier this evening by one of LA's finest for making a rolling stop thru a stop sign. So the *******, approaches my car from the passenger side and asks for my paperwork. I have my fiancee' in the car with me. I hear a couple of "clank clank" sounds coming from the right side of my car. It's his steel baton tapping against the side of my car! I ask to step out of the car to inspect any damage that might have occured, and low and behold there are 3 chip marks and one 1/4" scratch mark on the silver paint. I immediately point out the damage to both him and his partner who was also present. They had nothing really to say. They neither confirmed or denied that the officer who approached the car was responsible for the damage. Now I am really pissed and asked for both their ID #'s and business cards. I called up the station after I got home and left a message on the watch commander's answering machine. Hopefully I will get a call back soon regarding this. Now what should I do? What usually happens when you accuse a cop of wrongful damage of property? My plan is to goto my buddy's bodyshop and have him give me an estimate for an ungodly amount of money. These bastards need to learn a lesson. Anyone else have a similar experience happen to them? Man, I'm so angry at these idiots.

Does anyone know a good course of action to take? I need some legal advice, thanks.

You done everything right so far. Every major city police department has a procedure for filing complaints like this one - don't worry about ticking off the cops, they probably know they made a mistake - but obviously won't admit it. Take lots of pictures, get the professional estimate done, then file a claim.

The City of Los Angeles is notoriously famous for denying claims made against it. Hopefully you can prove the cop caused the damage (baton matches dent, etc). You may have to go to small claims court. Please be aware that there is a statute for claims against the city and it is not long - DO NOT DELAY!!!

dude, that's messed up. i really hope they pay up, but it doesn't look good, all he needs to do is deny and the judge will take the cop's word over yours. what car do you have btw?

Question

This may be a stupid question but after accusing him of the damage, did he write you up for running the stop sign. Atleast he didnt smash your taillight with his baton and say "looks like we got a taillight out sonny" BTW what an idiot.

Im sure the cop car has a camera that films when they pull people over so if this goes to court you can make sure to get a hold of the video of him tapping your car with the flashlight.
