Question Would like some TPMS info please

Does anyone know the brand of tire pressure monitor sensor (ie: Beru, Schrader, Pacific etc) that the 2005 Acura RL uses?

Additionally, I'm looking into getting a set of nice summer wheels and tires and will need the TMPS as well. Anyone know of a place to purchase them at a reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance

Try www.tirerack.com. There are tons of choices of tires and a couple of nice rims too. Prices are very reasonable, mounting and balancing free and shipping is relatively cheap.

I got the wheels, tires, and TPMS from TireRack. See my post in this section. You pay a few extra bucks to get them from TireRack, but it's great to receive a fully mounted set of tires/wheels ready to go!

I too would like some tpms info. Specifically how easy is it to install replacements wheels with the system and can you just take the sensors off the OEM wheels or do you have to go buy a whole new set of sensors. I am thinking of upgrading my tires but dont wish to spend mroe bucks for sensors of a system I never use.

I emailed a bunch of Acura dealers for the best price on OEM TPMSensors, and found one dealer that offered 4 for 135.00 shipped. It appears that you can take the sensors off your existing wheels and put them on the new wheels.

In my case, I am setting up a set of wheels and tires for summer, then put the originals back on for the winter with our salty streets here in Indiana.

I'm told to use extreme caution when mounting or de-mounting tires with the TPMS units as they are easily damaged. Therefore I will have the Tire Rack do it all for me.
They mess them up, they replace them.

Cwdonahue,

The TPMS sensors you said came with the whole package installed from Tire Rack. Did you have to do anything to get them to work with the display on the car? Did you have to talk to someone in Tire Rack to make sure that they had the TPMS sensors and that they installed them correctly before mounting the wheels and balancing.

By the way which wheels did you choose... there are really only 3 or 4 choices on Tire Rack (plus their chrome versions)

Since the car reads the TPMS in the rims via RF, I just assumed that the car would "sense" the new monitors just as the original ones. Sure enough, I picked up my car with the new wheels mounted and showed "no reading" (just --- on the display) from the new wheels while driving home. The next time I started the car, the car must have sync'd up with the new monitors and everything worked as expected. TireRack needed no education or reminding about how the TPMS were to be mounted. They know what they are doing.

I bought the ASA ST4 in the painted silver finish. I've since seen some Mercedes E-classes driving around here with the same wheels as well as a Nissan 300Z with the chrome finish model. I've had lots of compliments on my choice of wheels, too, so if you are looking for public approval, you should do just fine with the ST4.
